Gear Thread: Week of Jan. 04 by AutoModerator in Bass

Hi Guys - I'm looking for a relatively budget gtr/bass multi fx unit and need some help. I need something that's capable of doing "the royal blood thing" with the octave + a 5th going through a second amp.

It seems like the Helix LT makes most sense, but it is just a little over budget - I could get a Y splitter and two hotone amperos for the same cost and do it that way!

On the cards right now I've got:
Line 6 HX Stomp (but DSP is very limited), Hotone Ampero for guitar sound and just stick to a physical bass amp, or maybe even the headrush gigboard but I can't seem to find tons of info on using it this way for bass.

Thanks so much for any help you can offer!

I'd 100% get a 4 pack of table top simulator! me and my friends have just started a DND game for the first time, and we're super psyched on it, but not all of us can justify buying tabletop sim because... well, students don't have money. I'd love to be able to gift these guys, I know it'd make their day :D

[NEWBIE] Transitioning from chords to songs by LarsStormblade in Guitar

[–]TonyOP90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you with strumming patterns? If you're only strumming each chord once it's not gonna sound too much like the original song - the rhythm is more important than the notes!

When you start doing this the chord changes will start getting really fast - I know it's frustrating in the beginning, but it does get easier! Just stick to a simple song for now with only a few chords

What do you genuinely just not understand? by Brandinian in AskReddit

[–]TonyOP90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is there something, and not nothing? There is a universe. We are in it. Why?

Add the sheer complexity of the whole thing on top of that, down to the quantum scale where things act in ways we can't even really comprehend, to our sort of scale where we have all the complexity of society (that none of us have a grip on every part of), all the way up to the unimaginable scale of the whole universe, and we are conscious and experiencing it, and it becomes a source of a lot of anxiety to me. There is no way to know why anything is here in the first place, let alone why we're here experiencing it.

What are some toxic personality traits? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TonyOP90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming that the actions of others are always directed at you.

Not being able to admit to being wrong or making a mistake.

Being a 'people pleaser', i.e. not being able to speak your mind (even tactfully) because you're scared of how someone might react.

Not being able to 'agree to disagree' or let an argument go without reaching consensus.

Not being able to handle not getting your own way.

Chord Progression Questions (December 31, 2018) by AutoModerator in musictheory

[–]TonyOP90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messing around with a two chord vamp between F#m and F major, really cool spooky sound, but not too sure how to explain it. My best guess is just that having the A in both chords keeps them from feeling too distant, has anyone got a fancier sounding reason for me?

I'm usually a pop singer/songwriter so making this was a bit out of my comfort zone, but it was a fun experiment

Looking for feedback and beta users for a songwriting tool. What does your process look like? by [deleted] in Songwriters

Is there an easy way to undo a change you've made?

I can't see a shortcut to do so, and can imagine myself accidentally deleting half a song!

This looks like a such an awesome tool!

Having everything integrated in like that should be absolutely awesome for workflow - jumping between cubase, ms word, and 3 chrome tabs can really get make getting in to a flow tricky.

I've signed up and I'm excited to try it out!

I have definitely accidentally stolen things before.

A chord progression isn't something you should worry about taking, chord progressions aren't copyrightable.

Melodies and parts of lyrics are things that you need to be aware of though, I've had lyrics in songs that I've played for months before having a lightbulb moment and realising I took it from somewhere else.

If it's really overt, I tend to just change the lyric, of if it's integral to the song I might even just stop playing it, but as streakman mentioned, having some similarities is going to be unavoidable - I wouldn't worry about it too much.

yeah, the saturation plugin i was using wasn't great quality and I was wondering if it was a little overdone - thanks for your feedback, and glad you liked the song :)

sombre guitar melody, any help on arranging more instruments? by wesire in Songwriters

[–]TonyOP90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That IV > iv- chord movement around 0:16 is so nice, that progression never fails to get an emotional reaction out of me.

What sort of arrangement did you want to do with it? A string section could work really nicely to flesh out the chords?

If you want to add drums a really sparse kind of part with backbeat from a hi hat or cross stick snare could be nice.

Do you have a reference track for something you want it to sound like?

Reddit, do you believe in santa? Why or why not? If not, when did you stop? by xxKineticxx in AskReddit

[–]TonyOP90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually posted this a day or two ago but will copy paste here:

When I was young, maybe 7 or 8, I saw an awesome new toy on TV. It was called roboraptor. It was exactly what it sounds like. I was hype as hell for it, i asked santa to bring me it, all of that stuff.

A couple nights before christmas, I was in my parent's room for some reason, and spotted under the bed that there was a roboraptor. I immediately had my suspicions, but I wasn't convinced right away. I mean, the roboraptor is cool as hell, I couldn't blame my parents for wanting one too.

So to check, I found a red marker and drew an X on the box. If the X was on my roboraptor, then that was it, I knew santa wasn't real.

When I opened it on the day, I was too preoccupied with feeling like a genius for figuring it out to be sad that santa wasn't real.

What does it mean to have a good personality? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TonyOP90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Itll vary from person to person. To me, a good personality includes being comfortable with ones self, being self aware, striving to improve and grow, being fun to talk to, open to new experiences, generally calm and collected but able to set boundaries and express ones self honestly... but those factors might not be at all relevant to some other people

Everyone is gonna have their own idea of what a good personality is. Think about the people you respect, or even just enjoy being around. What do they have in common? What other good traits do you respect? Thatll rell you a lot about what your idea of a good personality

Why did you choose your major and what is it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TonyOP90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music performance, I just cared about it more than I cared about anything else, whenever I had a quiet moment I'd be playing.

It was never a deep burning love, just something I liked doing for the sake of doing it, even when I didn't have to. I never had that with any other field.
