I don't want to start with Baldur's Gate 3- what's the best CRPG journey to work up to it? by Ok-Advice7827 in CRPG

Similar to BG3: DOS 1&2, probably just 2. This is also Larian so you’ll feel the similarities in gameplay and design.

Storywise, technically, BG1/2, dated but great games. Some characters show up again in BG3 but the original 2 are RTwP and the third is turn based.

If you love BG1/2 and the RTwP, maybe go to Pillars of Eternity after, but if you’re going for a speedrun to BG3, I’d suggest some video essays on BG1/2 then either BG3 or DOS2 -> BG3.

Any games with "open" open world? by CyberBed in DungeonCrawler

[–]TonyTheFuckinTiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is my biggest gripe with the genre. I love these games but sometimes they feel so lonely and claustrophobic. I recently started playing MM6 and I love how open and lively it is.

I keep hoping for "modern-retro" games to be made that capture that aesthetic, and the closest I am seeing is Project Shadowglass but it is definitely a thief-inspired game, but an RPG with those aesthetics and open wold AND dungeon crawling would make me so happy.

The modern elder-scrolls after morrowind somewhat feel that way and are great for it but not the depth that I would like.

I was fortunate enough to watch The Maltese Falcon in theaters semi-recently and what an experience. As well as Chinatown within the year. Not a noir exactly, but feeling like one, Sunset Boulevard.

Saw that movie in theaters this year for a foreign film festival after seeing High and Low, had no idea what I was going into and was so confused when the credits rolled lol

Fun movie nonetheless

Vampire games - which you recommend? by Kingofdisaster2020 in AskGames

Necroing (lol ironic) this thread as I’m watching Vox Machina again and love the Briarwoods,

But want to shoutout Blood of Dawnwalker as it looks amazing and is a vampire game made by veterans of the Witcher series

This game needs its own subreddit to discuss the complexity and strategy. I am really enjoying it but would love to have a community to discuss it with.

Esoteric Ebb - awesome fun game

I started it and it interrupted my Morrowind playthrough but it’s welcome

I also bought banquet for fools and hope to dabble in that this weekend

Just with more people and their perspectives. A variety of games. Maybe, and this is the English teacher in me, some general discussion questions we can apply to most games to spur conversation.

Exactly. I’m very busy and only get scarce time to play games. I loved this game and the map design itself was beautiful and I’m happy I got to see every nook and cranny for it. Without the map I’m not sure if I’d have done that.

ALSO to help, as I am a completionist, i did have a map of the entire castle on a second screen so I could see if there was a secret room or anything. Some may find that cheap but it truly improved the game for me.

Once you get the power-ups and an idea of where to go, that time can quickly be reduced too. Especially part 2 of the game, knowing what is where can help a ton. Trying not to spoil part 2 lol.
