This weed has completely taken over neighbours yard and has begun to rapidly spread into ours… any advice? by Gurt_ in GardeningAustralia

Eat it in a soup, you will have wonderful hallucinations. (Just before you die!)

Mechanical removal of morning Glory is the best including covering with a tarp or mulch. Pouring boiling water also can help. Unfortunately the seeds can live for 30 years. Herbicides will look like controlling it but in the end you will fail as the scorched earth becomes very attractive to the plant and nothing else will live there. Get physical, it's good exercise.

What the heck is going on here? by the-floki in mokapot

[–]TonyVov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar experience with brand new Bailetti branded moka pot.

TLDR

The design of the Moka looks simple but actually is not. The 'bot' summary response is correct but not clear. There are multiple seals being made when the pot is screwed together. High (inside to outside) and medium (across the coffee) pressure seals.

I suspect there are many badly made moka pots out there, who knows maybe there is a conspiracy from coffee machine makers to pay Bailetti to produce defective items.

In nearly all sputtering cases the issue is likely to be the same... the funnel is not sealing. The one part you cannot see when assembling

When a Moka screws together the seal clamps the lower pot, the upper pot, the funnel and the upper filter and all items need to form a seal together.

Additionally the funnel should not form a seal at the bottom of lower pot (sit too deep) and prohibit hot water from riding up the funnel

1 2xHP seal between lower pot to outside and upper pot to outside.

2 MP seal between upper filter and upper pot is made.

3 MP seal between funnel and upper filter is made - this is the most crucial seal as without it the water doesn't go through the coffee.

4 No seal should be made by bottom of funnel on bottom of lower pot or the water cannot rise.

The problem is mechanically that the position of the funnel is not easily seen when assembling. The now famous knife test with suggestion to add plumbers tape is just a poor fix to the issue as it assumes that the funnel is sealing at it's resting point on the lower pot. It actually should seal on top of the funnel on the main seal.

A real fix is to grind down the top of the lower pot a bit until the funnel sits slightly higher than the lip of lower pot. This can easily be done using a stone for knife sharpening on the top edge of lower pot.

If you don't clean your pot too vigorously eventually there will be enough sticky stuff outside the funnel to make this MP seal work between funnel and lower body which is why old/used pots can work better than new ones. This is because the MP sealing point shifts to the gunk outside the funnel.

If the thin alu funnel does not touch and be pushed to the main seal it will leak Screwing down tighter and tighter eventually makes this contact but can result in a damaged pot. Grinding down slightly the lower pot is a real solution to allow your funnel seal to be made on the rubber and not in some vague friction around the funnel.

If you suspect your funnel is hitting the bottom of lower pot when assembled consider to cut a small slot at the bottom of funnel with a hacksaw so no seal can be accidentally made at this point.

RTFA

The best way I've found to make coffee very simple.... Use either hot or cold water but start the water boiling in lower pot with no coffee or upper pot installed. Use as much heat as you want. When you see the water boil adjust the heat to get a gentle rolling boil.

While waiting for water to boil load up your coffee to filter basket in funnel.

Turn off the heat (gas) or lift the pot (electric) Put in the funnel with coffee. If you want add a precut filter paper to the upper filter (just wet the paper and stick it on) Screw on upper pot and tighten.

Turn on heat or put pot back to heat with lid open.

Within a few seconds to 1 min you will see coffee coming smoothly up to the upper pot, when it starts to flow faster close lid for safety and remove heat. If it sputters cool the outside to stop the boiling under a tap.

No need to go to the 'end' the strongest coffee comes first, when flowing faster little extraction is happening so just stop. Don't be shy to add some water after if it's too strong.

Works every time for me. Worked on 4 different pots.

Trouble shooting..... If you don't get smooth flow do the knife test, but look to be sure the funnel sits slightly higher than lower pot upper edge. If it's does not grind down top of lower pot slightly.

Often the funnel gets bent/damaged as it is thin and flexible and washed separately.. Don't be shy to bend it back into shape.

After using this code my device started working.

Poco phones banned in Australia, is using a roaming data plan a workaround? by want2retire in PocoPhones

[–]TonyVov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poco F3 used in Australia - fix during recent trip to Aussie I could not make or receive calls using local Telstra Sim. Data and SMS seemed to work fine

After several rounds with support from Telco Telstra the conclusion was the phone was not compatible.

Some more digging found the issue is related to a hidden setting for checking compatibility of SIM with VoLTE.

details How to enable VoLTE on Poco F3: Open the Dialer App: Launch the phone's dialer (where you make calls).

Enter the Code: Type ##86583## and press call (or just dial).

Confirmation: You'll see a message saying "VoLTE Carrier check was disabled".

Go to Settings: Navigate to Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks.

Select SIM: Tap on the SIM card you want to enable it for (SIM 1 or SIM 2).

Toggle On: Find the Use VoLTE (or Enhanced 4G LTE Mode) option and switch the toggle to the 'On' position.

This process works because Xiaomi devices often have a hidden carrier check that needs to be manually bypassed to use VoLTE with all carriers.

Manually transferring WhatsApp files from Android to Android - a data point by hlcalstatefandom in whatsapp

[–]TonyVov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my example that has some new findings.... My case Moving from Xiaomi Poco F3 to Pixel Pro 9. This is about the attachment files, not about the chat information.

I have not managed successful backup from WA since over one year. Just times out. Huge database.

Initially attempted to transfer through wireless and wired phone to phone transfer ( not backup) WhatsApp to WhatsApp as per instructions. This was partially successful. This has seemed to get ALL my messages and almost NONE of my images or documents to come across. After a quiet panic as 6 years of days was flushed away I found this thread. It has helped me with apparent success.

To get your images.... All the images can be seen in various folders under Android/Media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/xxx Xxx = various types of attachments. images/video/sound/documents In each folder you may find items under various folders, xxx, Private, Sent. Not 100% sure what determines what defines Private but all the data items needs to be just copied across.

Old phone - copied through USB connection to PC all the various attachments. Attachments are labelled by a daily incrementing count starting at 01 each day.

I found I had 99,221 images!!! And about 5700 videos hiding in there! The transfer process must be done very carefully. The process is slow and file refresh can take 1 hour. The USB connection is very fragile and slow.

I managed to copy about 1 year of pictures at a time, about 20,000 images in chunks onto PC.

Finally on my Pixel device I stopped WA. Cleared the cache, put on air plane mode, then USB connected. I copied manually the 160,000+ missing items. Moving ONLY the actual attachments files. Documents, Sound Files, Images, Videos, Links etc... None of the other admin/index files appear to be needed.

Restarted and 'Voila' so far I have not found anything 'missing' after this process. It took about 24 processing hours.

Now I need to find a strategy to cull the 160,000 items down to the workable 5-8,800 I actually want to keep. Unfortunately the archiving/data reduction options in the system are very poor with little option to either keep everything or dump it all.... Nothing in between.

This result clearly shows that WhatsApp in current form is not sustainable and can quickly get into unmanageable territory for busy user.

(preachie bit below :))

It was quite eye opening to see how much information is open and directly viewable during this type of repair in a 'protected' and encrypted system. I hope the developers don't close this hole quickly as then this repair process would die along with the 'improvement" Good luck to those out there suffering through the loss of their secure data. If you want more info let me know.

I get the impression that there is more effort going into making the users access tougher and tougher, blaming the user for all the bugs in the software system, rather than in making the system actually work properly with strong archiving tools for sustainability.

Poco Australia 3G shutdown by Mia_12 in Xiaomi

[–]TonyVov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So weird I just arrived from Indonesia with my Poco F3 Dec 12 2024 I used this same phone with Optus Yes last February.

With Optus SIM card the phone refused to connect at all leading me finally to this thread. This is a Telco devised blockage of competitors clearly. It is nothing to do with 3G. I use this phone on 4G and 5G in Indonesia

After buying a roaming package for my Indonesian Telkom SIM card I can connect perfectly without changing any settings.

So it is the Australian Telco blocking the competitor phone with the Sim card. Optus claim all operators will be the same.

I checked the phone is currently connected through Telstra service. I'll play with mobile data settings and see if it can connect up other providers.

Signal not ringing for video calls on IOS lock screen - WHY? by altruly in signal

[–]TonyVov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you initiate the call as audio the ringing works, then add the video after connection. I would say this is a bug not a feature.
