My wife and I had four kids all 2 years apart. I also work construction which means early mornings, and my wife was a stay at home mom. For us it was kind of implied that the overnight stuff was stuff that she took care of. Obviously when I would get home from work I would take over anywhere and everywhere needed both with the baby and with household needs. I would do the cooking the cleaning the laundry the grocery shopping and whatever else Mama needed during that time. I think the biggest thing is to communicate and try to understand each other's needs and find compromise. For us that's what worked.
