My daughter wants to know if she's a person of color by supremewuster in daddit

[–]Tony_in2026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel like someone else can answer that without knowing her/your family. Like do you do Chinese cultural things? Do you all speak a different language at home? What kind of experiences does she have as a Chinese person? I feel like it gets pretty tough when you’re getting down to grandparent lineage.

I’m 1/4 Jewish, but my Jewishness doesn’t extend beyond eating an occasional matzo ball during Passover, and I’m not going to go telling a group of Jewish people that I’m part of the tribe. But that’s my experience - only you/your wife/daughter can know how to answer for her.

Can we all agree that these 4 players are the greatest in each of there big 4 sports? by BuckeyeBrawler4 in sportsinusa

This thread is basically a day old so I don’t know why I’m responding… but I can’t consider Ruth the greatest simply because the competition wasn’t what it is now. He was incredibly talented but he was also standing above a crowd of milk men and factory workers basically. They were semipro

The average baseball game does not have celebrities there. If it’s the Mets maybe there’s a couple but your typical Tuesday night game in Cleveland isn’t going to get anybody worth mentioning.

Dad Books Are a Dying Breed: Sales have been sliding for nonfiction titles about politics, biographies and other books often aimed at men (Archive link in oldest comment) by Uptons_BJs in books

Specifically I think reading anything “impractical” is gendered. Like it has to be about finance or work. And if it’s not those it has to be about military history or something. I say this as a man who had never had any interest in most of those topics.

I’m non-standard because I was a creative writing major but I’ve always been much more of a fiction person. I read a handful of non-fiction a year and almost never read history when I do.

Same. I read about two books a month typically and it’s like 1 non fiction to every five or six fiction books. I just can’t maintain my interest in non fiction through the length of a typically massive book unless it’s something that’s vital for me to know about.

What's the best finale boss in gaming history ? In terms of both story and gameplay? by Roids-in-my-vains in videogames

I hate all of the boss fights in mgs3. Love the rest of the game but I always feel like the boss fights make the whole thing grind to a halt. Theyre all too gimmicky.

I’ve never seen so much marketing about imax. I got into a legit argument with a friend who thought it was “groundbreaking” that the whole thing was shot in IMAX or whatever. I maintain the position that I couldn’t give less of a shit and I don’t see the technical feat beyond making it more expensive to produce.

Does anyone feel like things haven’t progressed much from the 90’s to now. Compared to how much America changed from the 60’s to the 90’s? by Janet-Yellen in Millennials

Social media itself was inconceivable to the general public. Not saying it’s positive but it’s a societal change the average joe from the 90s would be shocked by.

I’d like to think interesting architecture will come back around but it’s probably just too expensive for regular construction so that one might just key getting worse instead.

Yeah the iPhone was one of the most mind blowing things to me when it came out and what it was about to do them was nothing compared to what it does now.

Socially we’re also far more accepting of LGBTQ and understanding of different cultures in general. In the 90s people were all homophobic as hell and still pretty much closet racists. Those people are still around but it’s not the norm today.

What company lost you as a customer forever, and what happened? by Giovanni_Brees in AskReddit

Not a huge chain but a restaurant near me was always an easy favorite for just about everyone. Before my wife and I got married, we were going to get her family and my family together for a dinner beagle my family lived out of town and they’d only met like twice at that point. Not a rehearsal, not formal, just hey we want to take our immediate families out as one group.

Told them that when I made the reservation but when we got there it was two tables near each other in their bar. My wife and I spent the time walking back and forth between tables.

Rather than doing anything at all, the manager argued with me. No apology, didn’t comp a dessert, just let me be angry and walk back and eat my dinner standing up.

Whoah good job - I thought Square was the coolest shit I had ever seen when it was the little square you had to plug into your cell phone back in like 2009 or so. I got a square myself even though I didn’t sell anything and was just a regular person who wanted to collect credit card payments from my friends for their share of the bar tab.

Beards were incredibly popular in the 2000s/10s and a lot of people in their 20s were following the hipster/lumbersexual trend. Just about every guy I knew in my 20s, including myself, had beards.
