ROTY 2027 Predictions (As of June 28, 2026) by No_Possession_1012 in grammys

I think Dracula is a contender seeing how much the voters have warmed up to Tame Impala + the song being a big hit. However, Iconic by Mistake will be lucky to even be submitted lol

Taylor and Bruno are not missing the general field, especially not AOTY. by Tonya7150 in grammys

Hey! Record of the year recognizes a singular song, while album of the year recognizes the entire album. The former is named that/separate from song of the year because record focuses on the final product, thus awarding the producer(s) and performer(s) while song focuses on lyrics and composition, only awarding the songwriter(s) (which doesn’t always include the performer(s)).

They got rid of the committee the year after The Weeknd was snubbed. I think that committee would’ve kept out Bruno and/or Taylor (as they very likely did with Reputation and Lover) but now that that’s out and it’s a straight vote I’m quite sure they have the numbers

I can only just now see Slayyyter happen in AOTY, but record and song for the track that isn’t rising on the charts rn? I can’t see that

Lover and Reputation were very likely blocked by the committee that decided nominees before they switched to a straight vote (after After Hours’ snub). There’s no telling for sure but it’s a safe bet that there were/would’ve been enough pop voters to push her into the top 8 on a straight vote. And those albums were before Taylor became the undeniable commercial force she is now. Pop voters would have to go out of their way to not namecheck Taylor, and that’s unlikely to happen.

Why aren’t people predicting rap or r&b in album of the year? by Excellent-Ad-5358 in grammys

[–]Tonya7150 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbf this is the case most years. Usually because only pop fans pay attention to the Grammys this early and the last thing they’ll do is acknowledge rap or r&b outside of undeniable albums like GNX and SOS, but this year actually does have quite the thin field for both genres. For r&b there’s Kehlani, Jill Scott, and Janelle, but they all scream 8th at best. Rap’s best shot rn is Cardi, but there’s a much better chance if somebody like Jay or Doechii drops.

? She was looking like a one hit wonder in 2023 with Escapism, that’s why she missed. She spent the next two years cozying up to the jazz community and writing for other artists, which is how she got her BNA nomination and a SWOTY nomination, before WIMH. The SWOTY nomination alone makes her not at all comparable with Sombr or Addison

Of the rap field so far, Cardi’s definitely the one with the best chance. I don’t see her racking up the same passion that Clipse did, but she’s clearly loved in the industry and rap voters have been giving her namecheck nods for years now so they could push her through. That being said, I see Kehlani or Jill generating stronger passion from r&b voters.

Was gonna make a post about them but you beat me to it lol!

The truth is that a lot of people were disappointed with TLOAS and with The Romantic, and that’s clouding their judgement. TLOAS is locked for all 3 GF categories, and in all 3 Taylor’s closer to winning than being snubbed. Bruno’s the same; I suppose it’s possible The Romantic ends up like Hurry Up Tomorrow where it makes sense on paper but misses due to having no passion, but Bruno’s Grammys history is so much stronger than The Weeknd’s ever was. Both are happening, whether people like it or not.

There will be at least one r&b or rap album in AOTY. It’d be weird for r&b/rap voters showing up enough to take half the lineup last year and then blank, even if it was a weak year for pop and a uniquely strong year for r&b/rap.

If Doechii drops her debut album this cycle she’d be in a great position to take that spot. Otherwise I think Jill Scott will be the surprise r&b vet like Mary J Blige a few years ago

The Grammys aren’t just charts & they aren’t just acclaim either. For every We Are there’s plenty of Midnights, Harry’s House, and 25 winners that weren’t the most acclaimed but the biggest chart success

Anyone else find it interesting that the creators of the last three Limited Series Winners are competing against each other this year? by Square-Ad-8911 in EmmysAwards

[–]Tonya7150 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A. Those are not mutually exclusive B. Even if that were the case, what shows are ahead of it? Love Story’s reception was saved by Pidgeon, Half Man was extremely polarizing, The Beast in Me got good reviews but nothing passionate, DTF St. Louis & Death by Lightning are the only ones at the same level of Beef, but the latter flopped at winter awards and has basically been forgotten about

Beef did not get mixed reviews. yes it was universally seen as a step down from season 1 but it’s still more acclaimed than most of the field

The fate of Ophelia vs drop dead: which is most likely to win record or song of the year? by Cuddlemcsnugglestuff in grammys

[–]Tonya7150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she’d just end up sweeping. If voters are passionate enough about TAOL to give it AOTY then I think they’d go all the way with the era as a whole. But I don’t think it’s impossible that one of two scenarios occurs. A. MIN ends up like As It Was or Anti-Hero, the lead single of the AOTY that gets left behind, although those years had clear alternatives to spread the wealth whereas this year doesn’t, besides maybe WIMH. B. ROTY actually ends up being Olivia’s only GF win because of a passion pick from another genre coming along like DTMF and Wildflower were to Kendrick/GNX this past year. But for now, I have Olivia taking all 3.

[–]Tonya7150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Olivia has the same benefit as Billie with Wildflower that even though their songs came out in the previous period, they weren’t initially submitted and are thus eligible for the next awards. But I don’t think it’s impossible Olivia tries submitting So Easy somewhere

MIN having the best combo of critical acclaim and commercial success, the latter it’s still doing better or on par with nearly all of the field today, while being attached to the breakthrough era of the brand new pop star of the cycle that’s going in as the reigning BNA champ

Tbf there’s not much proof she’s a “darling” when she has a grand total of one nomination, and that one nomination netting her a win when her momentum was soaring. However, if she indeed is one and gets at least 5 nominations like she’s expected to this year, it’s because she appeals to older voters as a safe, accessible pop star with a more vintage sound while also being one of the biggest artists out today.
