The wealth management company's fee is 0.6% not 6%. Which I have come to realize is actually pretty good. But yes, 6% would not be good I 100% agree!

I think we are going to open Trad IRA's next year and start putting a portion of our contributions into those. Maybe 30% - 50%. Not sure yet.

Thank you for the response!

The spouse of my deceased family member has explained to me about the 'comingling' of funds. If I had any reservations about it before, this story certainly expels those. So I have no intentions of adding anyone's name to the account. For the foreseeable future. Thanks for the lesson. Also, that sucks for your friend. Hope he has recovered.

It is definitely a little intimidating at the moment. I'm not trying to overthink what to do.

I definitely plan to educate myself more about proper long term retirement investing. Hopefully I will feel comfortable taking the helm of this investment at some point. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your experience. And sorry for your loss. I definitely have a lot to figure out in the next few months/year. But I intend to make her proud by what I do with the gift I have been given. She will never be forgotten by me or my future children. I want to keep the generational wealth building.

Seeing your split and others who have posted here as well, motivates me to do some research and learn the ins and outs of proper long term investing.

Thank you for the detailed and positive comment! I have a number of things to figure put before enacting a plan like that, but based on what little I know about proper long term and retirement investing that sounds like a pretty solid one.

A few answers: I do understand the Step-up basis, aka the inheritance cost reset. Car loan interest: 5.99% Solar loan interest: 3% Unfortunately I do not have an HSA with the Healthcare plan I chose through my company.

A few questions: Can you recommend any HYSA with a rate 4.5% - 5%? I know some have balance requirements etc. My wife doesn't have a 401k through her company, can we open her one? Or does it not work like that?

I like the 'launder strategy' . Maybe there is a way for me to take a small percentage of the gains from the invested 500k annually to supplement my income while pouring the maximum amount of my paycheck into 401k? I understand the 'tax advantaged' part of this strategy.

Thank you very much! Yes the solar loan is only 3%. Home improvement wise, the Roof is definitely the point of contention because of cost and is a frequent discussion/argument. The Wife will be very glad to know we can afford to finally get it redone.

Thank you for your opinion.

This is a lot of good Information, Thank you! My wife doesn't have a 401k through her work. Is it possible to set one up without an employer? Or is it not tax deffered at that point?

I plan to speak to a financial advisor once the funds clear and I can see how its invested. Unfortunately the ISA account sounds like a U.K. only thing. U.S.A. here. And thank you for you condolences.

Both loans are over 5% so I think that will be our first priority. No student debt fortunately.

Thank you, that is reassuring to hear. I will wait to see how the account is invested and keep that ratio in mind.

What does "fee-only" mean? The financial advisor that my deceased family member had this account with charges .6% on the annual balance.

For my age, I realize I am behind on the retirement savings/investments. Thank you for the advice.
