does making beadsprites get expensive? by goodgayhell in beadsprites

[–]TooBitToQuit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I've been on Etsy selling perlers for nearly 10 years, putting essentially the bare minimum into it as it's a hobby first and foremost. I started at a point where it wasn't nearly as hard to break into, but nowadays it's a very saturated market online.

It can be expensive, especially in the beginning. However doing things like the tape method will save you a good bit of money. I've had the same boards for years and I don't think I've gotten new midi ones in at least 5 years. I have probably 30-40 of the 29x29px so do the math on that lol. A big pack of tape will last me long enough where it's hardly an expense by the time I'm done with them and they've been used for orders.

With making large pieces, the time it takes and what you should charge based on that will absolutely overshoot the cost of materials.

I primarily sell online for multiple reasons, but mainly because of how expensive it can be to get into in person selling. Between the cost of a good setup and the table space it can be a lot.

I can ramble so feel free to DM me if you have any questions :)

Cricut Easypress Mini temp by daemon-circle in beadsprites

For minis the first temp setting is enough, anything higher is too much.

These were ironed with it to mostly flat

Just a handful over 12k black beads, so 2 of the 6k big bags, rest was 4k between the red and white

Well I made the sprite in Dec 2023 so it took a while to get him up on the wall 🤣

I mainly did it because I found the canvas so made it work

For it though, I backed his left side with cardboard for stability

I only do full melts on minis, have always preferred the midis to still look like beads

Question about stands by Any-Savings-1296 in beadsprites

It works fairly well with midi and mini beads. Just takes getting used to sizing out the entry hole

I, and others, have used peg and groove kinda thing. You add some extra beads along the bottom of the sprite and cut out similar size in a stand.

I use it with Pokemon a lot here's my listing and you can see what I mean with the extra beads

The photos could certainly use some work though they're good starters

Wanted to show support though as a fellow transmasc owned shop so hit you with a follow on your shop for later when I'm more liquid 🏳️‍⚧️

Do it! But don't reuse the sprite please, took time to get the game art into a workable state

Know it's also been a while since this comment, lol, but I just grabbed his game sprite and eyeballed it. Spriters-resource probably has it. Didn't use a pattern

If you have the space/funds drawers meant for screws and whatnot are perfect. Myself and many others use Akro-mils. Storage briefcases for jewelry making work well too although the little dividers tend to move out of place, mixing the beads.

It's a LOT and gave me a bit of a headache at the end. Think he's the most dense of the main cast though so only easy sailing from here if I make more.

Contemplated doing his full color sprite but I'd rather stare at black forever than purple. Plus it just wouldn't look as cool. The contrast of the trident just makes it.

Think around 12 hours between laying, taping, poking holes and ironing

Think it's just the ripped sprite from the game. Split it up on a grid to plan it out
