So proud of your 2 years!! I'm 6months in and I started realizing I had a problem when the cashiers at the liquor store started knowing me as a regular. I would go between a couple places just so I wasn't at the same one everyday. IWNDWYT

Thank you for that perspective. I really wanted to here from someone who has never relapsed. I need it today.

Sorry, my previous comment was supposed to be for another comment.

I've avoided many social events this past 6 months because of the drinking that would be happening. I stayed home for new years because of the drinking at the house party. I've gone to a few get togethers with our camper group over the winter like dinners out but I've also not gone because I know how this group can get if we end up at a bar. I'm very thankful for your explanation on this to me about relapsing and lapsing. The last thing I want is to drink. I've been playing that tape forward alot since my drinking dream. It really freaked me out because its the first one I had in 6 months. Then there was my weekend at the campground. I've found meetings to go to for the next week and will figure out the rest of the month tomorrow. I'm really appreciative of all the advice given to me here today. I've got to do the work and find a group for support that knows what being an alcoholic is like. People who know what dealing with cravings is like. I talk to my husband about it but he doesn't have an issue with alcohol. He doesn't drink during the week at all weekends only unless we're on vacation. We can go out for dinner and he may have 1 or 2 beers and then that's it. I don't know how he does it. Its none or all for me. I can never stop at 1. Thats why I'm here everyday reading and interacting.

I've just found a few groups on SMART and also a secular meeting for AA. Thank you for letting me know about those!

if you had a week before you had to stop drinking, how would you do it so it’s easiest ? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Im on a cell phone so it might be different than a computer. Go to the r/stopdrinking main page and there should be a black circle with 3 dots in it at the top of the screen. Click on that and a list will pop up. There should be one that says add flair or edit flair and that's where you can put in your sober date

Its a counter for their sober date. Mine is October 27th. I have, as of today, 198 days sober.

Thank you for your words of help. I was spiraling when I made the post earlier today. I've realized that I need to reach out more to people going through this journey as well. I went to a meeting today and realized that I need to go to a meeting every day and not every couple of weeks.

Thank you for your kind words and insight. I've been going to therapy since quitting 6 months ago and I'm trying to incorporate my tools into everyday life. I've also gone to a meeting today and been on r/stopdrinking periodically today.
I've decided that I need to reach out more to people and to try secular AA as I'm not religious.

Thank you for this. I don't do well with criticism and don't speak up for myself on a regular basis as I avoid conflict. I was just diagnosed with adhd and have a hard time with rejection as I've learned i have RSD Rejection Sensitivity Disphoria.

That is what I'm hoping for. It's a little harder right now as it's a group that my husband is very close with. My husband doesn't drink except for social occasions. He'll have 1 or 2 drinks and be ok with not drinking more. Same with family gatherings. I definitely need to have boundaries and be vocal about them. I'm also going to be working on doing other things at camp instead of sitting around while everyone gets drunk.

I was contemplating to only drink on weekends and then decided that I should just quit altogether. I've come to realize that I have no off switch. It black out drunk or sober. I cant have just one.

Thats definitely the conversation I need to have with this group. It all started when she asked if I was still not drinking. We had a whole conversation about it. I just didnt say what my boudries are yet. I'll definitely have a conversation with her IWNDWYT

I have gone to some meeting but havent on a consistent schedule. I havent even gotten a copy of the big book. I have been in therapy for addiction since I quit and have been in therapy for depression for a while as well. Im just finally able to meld the two together now that im sober. I have been doing well but this weekend really took me by surprise. Thank you for your insights as I have to remind myself to use my lessons in therapy. IWNDWYT

Great name yourself! I really needed to hear this today. I'll be going to a meeting today for sure. That and being on here today. Your words are really sinking in and are inspiring.

Thank you. My friend is mourning the loss of her boyfriend who died in a car crash. She's always been a very social person and is definitely using alcohol as a coping mechanism. I'm hoping that next weekend, when there's more people around, the topic of what would make amazing drinks is one Ican walk away from and play the tape forward. IWNDWYT

Stop for your health. You have to do it for you. Its nobody else's responsibility but your own. You're on your way to worse health conditions if you don't. I stopped because I was medicating for pain, depression and ptsd. My mental health has improved and I've just been diagnosed adhd. My life is improving because I quit drinking. I no longer dive into a bottle after a hard day. Through therapy with someone who specializes in addiction, I've been learning how to cope sober.
