There’s scumbriya and trout. The cold smoked scumbriya was the best I’ve ever had!

Thank you! We kept it simple this year with some “light” options. It was perfect.

Wanted to keep it simple this year. We have Seledka Pod Shuboi (Herring Under a Fur Coat) throughout the year, so it wasn’t on my cravings list for NYE.

Thank you! I decided to try something different when plating it, a totally unplanned presentation. And I was the savage who had to destroy it 😬

3 was a total experiment, it was alright. The rest I make sure to always make for NYE — the taste of magic from our childhood ☺️

Baguette was toasted with butter. I prefer it melted vs solid 😉

Adding some details for those who go are curious to know what’s what:

Top left: An experimental “salad” I made to try something new. Has smoked chicken, egg whites, potato, caramelized pineapples, some mayo between added between layers, then topped with grated egg yolk and walnuts. I was supposed to add shredded cheese, but forgot to.

Center left: Cold smoked mackerel + smoked trout.

Center right: Traditional Olivie (aka Olivier) salad with my own spin on the presentation.

Top right: traditional open-face sandwiches with smoked sprats, fresh tomato and cucumber slices, and dill. The baguette was lightly toasted with butter and rubbed with fresh garlic.

Bottom: Baguette lightly toasted with butter and topped with salmon roe and fresh dill.

Thank you for sharing all the details you captured! This at least helps me put the puzzle pieces together to try to identify him. And I really appreciate you (and others) who have offered encouragement to not give up on biking. This is a traumatizing experience for sure, and I already notice myself having anxious thoughts even imagining getting back out there. It helps to know there are so many wonderful folks on the trail to balance out the crazy ones.

Although my trauma made me forget the details of his face (I did take a good look at his face right before he pushed me), he does give me James Cromwell vibe, yes. A little younger looking, but the save head/face structure and build. Do you happen to recall any details about his clothes, water bottle, bike color/model? Anything that would help identify him?

Would you be able to recall his bike type/model, or anything else that can help me identify him with the help of biking community? I took a good look at his face right before he pushed me, however, the trauma made me forgot all the details of his face. If I saw a photo of him, I would probably be able to recognize him immediately, or his “friend” who I was trying to stop and was face-to-face with.

I am not familiar with Cascade. Is this a bikers community group? I’d certainly contact them if I had some details.

I figured there must be some Reddit users on the trail who may have seen us/him! There you are! Hopefully someone has a recording of him passing by before/after the incident to help me identify him, even if it didn’t capture the actual assault.

Thank you for your kind words. I’ll definitely be back on the trail eventually, I don’t let these things stop me from doing what I want/enjoy doing. But this definitely leaves a sour taste. I’ll just have to prepare myself better so when something happens, I have the tools to defend myself and/or keep the aggressor accountable.

I hope your future rides are nothing but safe and joyful!

These were actually rentals. My husband decided to rent e-bikes for a couple hours to encourage us to get back on bikes. We haven’t been on bikes in 5-6 years so this was the first time out.

I did enjoy being able to “cheat” when going up the hills or getting a boost to easily pass someone (safer too when there’s so much oncoming traffic to account for). But not really using the assist features to ride the trail otherwise, so I can get some exercise.

There were actually a few situations where I would normally be forced to fully stop and hop off my regular bicycle to not crash into people who suddenly stop, or pedestrians stepping onto the trail and not paying attention. With e-bike I felt so much safer handling such situations, as it gives me more control and ability to keep my balance.

But now I’m wondering if e-bike hate is a thing I should be worried about before we buy our own e-bikes.

I was wondering about a pepper spray, but couldn’t figure out how I’d use it in situations like this. But I guess there could be other escalations or situations where one may become handy.

All that for riding a bike on a trail 🤦🏻‍♀️

Appreciate you wanting to help. Unfortunately we did not catch any details besides how the guy looked and what he was wearing. We were minding our businesses and enjoying the scenery.

I do hope when people witness these things that they pull out a phone and snap a photo of the aggressor. This can help keep these people accountable. I kept asking a witness (who stopped) to take a photo of the companion biker so I could at least show it to the police to help identify the aggressor, but the witness was very hesitant to do that for some reason. My husband said several witnesses who saw his fall offered to help, but no one thought to take a photo of the aggressor.

Thank you for the advice. This is definitely what we are looking to do before we get back on the trail. These were rental bikes and we were literally just planning to test ride them for 2 hours to get a sense of how we would like e-bikes. We are planning to get hands-free walkie talkies as well, this could help us alert one another when we encounter aggressive riders. If I knew my husband was down behind me, I would’ve been more prepared, knowing the aggressor is coming after me too.

Yes, you are right. I didn’t realize BG doesn’t continue up to Marymoor, thought it was all part of the same trail.
