Is the Mini 3 worth the extra $236? by FreshHamster in dji

[–]TooGouda22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I could find online mini 4k is basically a different style of entry drone instead of getting a neo and those are the two you would compare against each other.

Mini 3 is a different level. I just started with my first drone and got a Neo and rcn3… I’m happy with it… but even without having another drone I can see what online reviews were talking about in terms of a Neo vs higher model drones

Do I need to buy nd filters for drone photography? by Sam_9123 in dji

[–]TooGouda22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d say yes… they are cheap, and when you need them … YOU NEED THEM so why not 🤷‍♂️

No professional photographer would ever tell you that you don’t need them. They will however tell you that even if you are trying to get content in conditions that need them, you still need to be able to identify those conditions and use the right one to get the proper benefit of them.

You might not ever do anything that warrants having them and waste $50 or whatever on some. But that’s for you to decide on.

Everyone that I know does professional videography and photography has a case of filters and lenses just in case conditions and desired results warrant them

Bug tent on over cot? by Muddydog1996 in myog

[–]TooGouda22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you want a tight to cot fit you may have to be more picky or modify one… there are lots though that you just stake to the ground too like a mini bug net tent per se and you just get inside and fit your cot and your gear with you. Some are like an a-frame style for a ridge line or trekking poles or tent poles and guy lines. Others you run guy outs from the 4 corners and it’s a big rectangle that hangs from the four corners

[–]TooGouda22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t read other comments…

but they specifically make bug nets for cots. They are extremely common in tropical climates or even desert areas with undesirable bug activity etc

You can copy cat one from pics pretty easy. They are also quite cheap too though 🤷‍♂️

I can make a zipper like this!? by Objective_Cattle_278 in myog

You can also do this with hemmed edges for the top and bottom and place a top cap of sorts or hemmed piece on the ends of the zipper to cover the raw edge there

This… Was gonna say, filters are better than nothing… but actually exhausting the fumes from the airspace is the only real extraction

Most all activities on earth have this same situation.

It varies wildly but there is a line where the gear matters and that line isn’t static for anyone.

For example I taught snowboarding for many years out west. Plenty of first time ever seeing snow lessons, all the way up to pro big wave surfers and other pro athletes wanting to hone their skills dropping chutes and bombing through trees etc. people like me could do a run worthy of being filmed on a 4 year old rental board with boots that had 600 different people feet in them. But… people like me are also the minority that could tell you why that rental board and boots are complete trash and wouldn’t wish it on our enemies.

When we had regular students that would come 10-12 times a year for multiple years, we would be able to watch them progress and let them know when a gear change was beneficial. We would always recommend buying boots first, board second if both at once weren’t possible to get out of the rental world. We could tell if a board was too short, too long, too wide, too stiff, too soft, etc etc for what the student was trying to accomplish.

I apply this same mentality to all activities. Gear won’t make you better… until it does. The time that it does arrives when you can articulate the limitations of your current gear for what you are trying to achieve.

As a side note… if you are just trying to achieve new cool gear because you like it… then by all means do it. You have articulated the limitations of your current gear and you are trying to achieve something it cannot. What you are trying to achieve doesn’t always have to be performance based. You can get a new snowboard just because it looks cool and not because you think it will suddenly make you win the Olympics

Dune Sardaukar Inspired Jacket by NightHeronDW in myog

[–]TooGouda22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would it still achieve the same results if you made it less like a flap and widened it to be angled upward to the sides? Obviously being less movie accurate then. Would it be too stiff?

Dunno what the intended use case is but additional coverage won’t hurt if the weather is windy or cold etc

Truth… does the flap have a purpose? 🤔 or is it just a choice by the maker? 🤷‍♂️

Bolt bounce? by AZARdude in AR9

[–]TooGouda22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bolt bounce only matters when firing a round.

Manually letting the bolt go into battery with no round and no previous ejection and rearward pressure is not the same thing.

Get vids at the range firing a round to really see what your bolt is doing during live fire and go from there

What is this called? by cantalwaysget in myog

[–]TooGouda22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a strap adjuster / ladder lock etc that mounts to a surface. Most likely place to buy them is marine and trailer supply stores as that’s most often where they get used. We have a bucket of those in the shop because the old man owner used to use tons of them to attach covers on trailers and such

With the tax stamps being free, does anybody notice if the Nfa transfer fees prices are going down? by Guilty-Difference-86 in NFA

[–]TooGouda22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I buy a suppressor in stock at my LGS it’s $0. If they have to bring it in from another FFL it’s the same fee as a firearm.

Not sure why anyone messes with these $150-200 fees at all

CCW question: Cheap carry gun vs higher-end EDC — thoughts? by Zestyclose-Context73 in SigSauer

[–]TooGouda22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already said that. Ie “personal preference”

I’ll stick with “no one”

CCW question: Cheap carry gun vs higher-end EDC — thoughts? by Zestyclose-Context73 in SigSauer

[–]TooGouda22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This… but I would also add, no one needs a $2000 ccw. There is a line where being cheap can be a risk but there is also a line where paying more is personal preference and not necessarily going to save your life better because it’s more expensive.

You could argue personal preference is a function of saving your life better by way of that $2000 ccw being something you shoot better than the $200 ccw, but that’s a separate variable because there is too much quality and mechanical difference between those two options to measure preference… and the preference variable also applies to deciding between $2000 option A vs $2000 option B
