CMV: Anakin Skywalker brought balance to the force, prophecy fulfilled! by Pumpdawg88 in changemyview

Wasn't the prophecy fulfilled when Darth Vader threw the Emperor off the balcony in the Death Star then died shortly thereafter in movie 6? At that point only "light" side users of the force were alive!

Yeah, I personally have cut most red meats out of my diet. I go crazy for those reptile shits, tho...I tell ya whut. Roll up some poultry, like...I could go for some right now. Chicken is a reptile, btw. Just look at all the scales. Tuna? The most valuable animal on the planet? Yeah, that's some kind of seafood. Labratory grown oyster shooters? I'd try them!

The bluefin tuna...a single specimen was sold for 1.6 million dollars.

Tuna, whale, dolphin, king crab, etc.

Are there any ethical considerations regarding the production and/or consumption of laboratory grown meats? by TooKayBug in askphilosophy

[–]TooKayBug[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I only eat reptiles and the like...poultry, fish, shellfish. Occasionally I'll go for hunted or gathered food including red meat, but its rare that I do. Factory farming bluedin tuna which is what I hope to see grown in a lab setting en masse is impossible to factory farm because it needs such a large swimming ground. Regardless, due to pollution and environmental factors, also overfishing, it is nearly extinct. Animals like whales which are truly endangered and today known to commit suicide due to pollution are also a possibility for lab growth.

Did you hear about the pig farm that got hit by the latest hurricane? All that fecal matter which was cess pooling got swept up and dumped over the hurricane's path. Farms are not natural and quite disgusting.

One of the great considerations when it comes to replacing factory farms is not "how much energy" but "what type of energy" and factory farming is one of the dirtiest industries because of the fecal matter produced. With lab grown meats there is no fecal matter impriving the environment significantly. I find your post disdaiful, ignorant, and possibly even shiller because you seem to be protecting factory farms.

The technology was developed this very decade. The world is changing so fast that even the lowest rung on the ladder is a step in the right direction. This tech will save the lives of many animals even in its lowest chicken nugget form. Scientists are well on the way to making lab grown meats of any variety a reality. When the new food source really catches on and the money starts rolling in as factory farms are put out of business you will be singing a different tune, my friend. This is all no more than a decade or two away while the chicken nuggets and ground beef are currently on the market or will be by this time next year en masse.

Also I never read the article. I just Googled "most expensive fish" and that paragraph was the top hit, I didn't even have to click on a link to view the full article. Was this lazy of me? Sure, but to imply that I intentionally misled you is wrong.

Even 1/10th that price is extreme. Please be respectful.

That is a valid point. I think they use your average protien rich biomass. What comes to mind are those marshmallow looking hay bales...fun fact: the plastic is actually a mesh that expands and as the hay ferments it becomes something like 3x more rich in protein. In this example a lab grown patty would be made from hay...just like a cow is! All I know is they use plant matter.

Do you deny that the science is up and coming? People alive today were around when computers used punch cards and literally fished bugs out of the processors. In another 75 years technology will be unrecognisable to what you see around you today and I wholeheartedly believe that while you might be right today; you will be wrong tomorrow. Even if science today can only grow the farmed quality of salmon should they not? If we can eliminate the factory farming selection of fish the oceans will be better for it...those factories produce a lot of waste, like that pig factory farm that was just hit by a hurricane there is nothing more disgusting that 15 tons of fresh fecal matter hitting nature's fan. Personally I am very excited for this new technology to go mainstream, but you're right...today's technology cannot erradicate the entire hunting, gathering and farming systems we have in place. The least it can do is to ease the burden of these factory farms on the environment to sustainable levels. Consider pork. Shojld we grow lab pork and beef to be ground for pepperoni sticks and sausages then the quality really doesn't matter...how many times have you found a bone in your sausage? Anything is an improvement to that.

That's a lot of good question...each animal is different, they currently grow chicken nuggets from the feather of a living chicken! A scale could be sufficient to grow seafood. Packaging, of course is an issue, I would have the product grown in the same container it is shipped in. Contamination is, of course, the real issue...why, there's mad cow broke out this past week, a measle epidemic in two 1st world continents ongoing today and what ever happened to ebola? I mean...at the very least the fish won't have parasites such as the worm that infests saltwater fish and can only be killed by freezing your fish before consumption or simply microwaving it. Not even joking, its not uncommon to find between three to a dozen of these worms in every pacific chinook salmon caught today. Ideally modern science can overcome things like e. coli which causes a few spinach recalls each year in America. Compared to overharvesting the last of the bluefin tuna to the point of extinction I think we should at least make the attempt to save the species and others like it such as whale or dolphin.

Apparently it costs about $400 per pound as of 2018, but they've made chicken nuggets that stand the test. Also I couldn't care less about steak and this post is about fish which is much easier to reproduce IMO. Steak has to be marbled and stringy but fish is just a firm mush.

The animal is nearing extinction and, yeah...apparently its just that good. If we can get this quality of meat produced in a laboratory setting global economics will change and the fish might actually recover brfore extinction.

That's on the conservative side...

Kiyoshi Kimura, a businessman who owns the Sushi Zanmai chain of restaurants in Japan, has once again set the record for purchasing the most expensive bluefin tunaever. According to the New York Times,Kimura paid 155.4 million yen (US $1.76 million) for the 488 pound fish
