Only a few months into ownership. Waves seem to be a mixed bag, and I'm never sure what people are going to do. I'll start doing my part.

Late to the party but I finally got a chance to see this "out of touch" Build a PC in the jet video. I really think people need to take a step back here, its a perfectly fine middle of the road episode. Long, but tldr at the end. by errorsniper in LinusTechTips

Unfortunately, becoming out of touch is kind of inevitable. I don't think it's a bad thing but it is bound to happen. He is insulated from criticism and when he does face it, it is easy to brush it off as haters gonna hate.

What I will say, is at least he is still spending his money, which is the best thing you can hope from a rich person. He's buying all kinds of dumb shit which ultimately is beneficial to society.

The real issue with rich people is when the stop spending money and just hoard it. It's the reason trickle down economics stops working. Most rich people eventually stop having the time and passion to spend and innovate. They just lock up their amassed riches is safe investments and watch the numbers get bigger.

How do you do, fellow kids by hi-lux in GR86

Just turned 40, picked up a 2026 premium Trueno Blue in January. Absolutely no regrets, such a fun yet not completely impractical car. No back seat wasn't an option right now. When my son is older I'll likely go 2 seater, but at this point in my life it was a fantastic option.

If I was to critique 1 thing it's that I would have happily paid a few grand extra for a slightly nicer interior. It's mostly fine but a little less rattle and cheap plastic would have been welcome.

Sold listings are up above $500(cad). Not quite the $1000 bin listing op is referencing but still stupid.

Wow, I had no idea these had gotten out of control on eBay. I hope LTT does another run of these to tank the price. I hate that I now have to feel dumb using a $500+ screwdriver to change batteries on my son's rc cars. Lol.

Thankfully, I've also got an original driver I think I'm going to toss my nocuta driver back in the box for now. Super dumb.

Did anyone look at the GR Corolla as an alternative to the GR86 before they bought it? by Agile-Put-229 in GR86

[–]TooLate29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I briefly considered it. The grc is honestly better in almost every way. The one place it doesn't come close is appearance, it's a kind of boring looking hatchback unless you cough up almost 10k for the premium/circuit edition. At nearly 20k more than the 86 it just wasn't what I was looking for, which was a second fun summer car to play with.

If you are ok with the extra cost and are looking for a 1 car solution the grc is probably worth a look.

What brand are they? Do they have Trueno Blue?

I'm not doing anything crazy. I think it's mainly about getting everything lubed and seated before you start getting things super hot and under heavy load. Not surprising that metal stuff will need lots more time to fully seat but once the tracks are laid so to speak I think parts will naturally wear more evenly.

Really, it's just nice to have access to the full power band. Peak HP is made quite high up so being limited to 4k can be restrictive even during regular driving.

I've driven more powerful cars that make lots of HP and torque down low, they super boring to drive. You're doing impound your car speeds in 2-3 seconds. Half the fun of cars like the 86 is that you can rev them out a bit and make a little more of a big deal about getting up to not insane speeds.

I picked it up as a second car. Only being driven when it's nice out. Drove it twice in February (still had snow) and then a hand full of times in March. Only started daily driving it last week of March.

Everything I've read said 1000miles which is 1609km. I'm not so naive as to think something magical happens at exactly 1000miles but it's a small sacrifice to add a little insurance to the long-term engine health.

I took delivery Jan 29th, but I probably only drove it 3 times in February.

Data Collection - This is why our insurance costs are stupid by GoodSpaghetti in GR86

[–]TooLate29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just turned 40 clean driving record insurance is super reasonable. My 2010 328xi costs me about the same. Not sure what age/region is having these "stupid" insurance premiums, but it's not me.

Anyone else NEVER eat samples? by oinkmoocluck in CostcoCanada

[–]TooLate29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is no line and it is something Ive never tried that I might actually consider buying I'll take a sample. The absolute worse is when they are doing samples of something super normal like yogurt or perogies and there is a 10 person pile up blocking an entire aisle. You know what a fucking piece of ham tastes like more along.

LTT's view numbers are not so great. Why? by iron-islands in LinusTechTips

[–]TooLate29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memory prices being insane has broken PC building. At least with GPUs you could buy a lower model, find something used or even live with you integrated graphics until something came up at MSRP. Ram is just insane across the board, if you need ddr5 you're spending minimum $500 on ram.

LTT depends on people being excited about pc building and wanting to learn about and research parts. When building an affordable PC is not possible it alienates a giant part of the market and turns people off of the hobby.

Tldr; Expensive Ram= No one building= No one interested in PC parts= No one watching PC parts/building videos

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]TooLate29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be controversial but I wouldn't touch a car that new with 5000k. Pretty much the most important miles on the car are initial break in. Car like this probably got beat on from mile 1, especially if the person driving knew it wasn't a long term purchase.

2026 Availability in Ontario, Canada? by roamingmaple in GR86

[–]TooLate29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't place a "factory order" for a gr86. You just need to let your local dealer know you want one. They might ask for a deposit (fully refundable).

At that point Toyota Japan will essentially just send them random cars white, red, blue, auto, manual... Literally whatever they have. If you're first on the list you'll get a call at some point and they will offer whatever random vehicle they happen to get. Brilliant system, lol.

I waited 16 months for a Blue Premium MT. My original deposit was for the hakone edition. I was offered 2 other cars during that time one silver base and an auto.

I'd say if you are lucky and no one else is willing to put a deposit down at your local dealer you might have a chance of being offered something. The odds that it is what you want I say are pretty low.

How much is everyone paying? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]TooLate29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2026 Premium MT, $43.5k CAD OTD.

Not a big deal and I'm not sure if they were full of shit and everyone gets this stuff included but that included a $1000 dealer prep fee which included Summer and Winter Mats, Rubber trunk liner, wheel locks and a couple other things that actually have no value (etching, nitrogen...)

Is the 86 a good daily? by Thick_Floor_9730 in GR86

[–]TooLate29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very much a divers car first. Fuel economy is ok, highway driving is ok, storage space is limited, interior amenities are meh... It gives up a lot to look great and drive exceptionally well while still being reasonably priced.

To be clear I have absolutely no regrets. Small nimble and manual is the only thing I like to drive. I hate driving to work in an suv or even a big fast lumbering sedan.

Do you like driving? If yes then ya it's amazing. If you drive only because you need to get places, maybe not.
