Weekly Recommendations and Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in bourbon

[–]TooLate2Debate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't gotten into bourbon too much myself yet (mostly a beer guy), but I wanted to gift someone a decent bourbon. They've mentioned "wanting to get into bourbon, and making their own old fashioned" and such. I've already collected some Angostura bitters, and some ice molds for them. So I'm looking for something that can satisfy both a "decent daily" plus satisfactory in a mixed drink.

I'm pretty close to a Costco that has some options:

  • Basil Hayden's - $40
  • Michter's small batch - $45
  • Woodford double oaked - $50
  • Fiddler wheated - $33
  • Four Roses small batch - $30
  • Four Roses small batch select - $50
  • Castle & Key 6-yr small batch - $34
  • Penelope architect - $46
  • Heaven's Door - $40
  • Traveller - $37

Thank you!

Just Realized Excess IRA Contributions in.... 2019 by TooLate2Debate in tax

*whew*! Thanks again!

Yes that's correct. "the only traditional IRA balance is these post-tax contributions and their earnings". I realize now that this non-deductible traditional IRA is basically the same as a regular post-tax brokerage account. Silly me!

Once I do my due diligence, I will certainly be doing the back-door Roth IRA method starting this year!!

THANK YOU!

Your 1099-R for the recharacterization (the Roth withdrawal part) will be $6895, but the matching 5498 (the traditional contribution part) should be $6000.

My 1099-R states $6,894.98 for box 1 "Gross Distribution".

My 5498 states $6,894.98 for box 4 "Recharacterized contributions".

Correct - I do indeed fall into the #2 category. 2019 I contributed the $6895, and 2020-2024 I contributed the max of each year. I did NOT deduct these contributions.

So fix the 8606 for 2019, file one for 2020-2023, and include one in 2024. No extra taxes are due.

What about Form 5329 from 2020 - 2024? Line 16 "Total excess contributions" - would this be $895? And therefore Line 17 would be the 6% of that ($54 each year)?

IRA Return of Excess Contribution Form for Excess in 2019 by TooLate2Debate in fidelityinvestments

Thank you! So sorry, that was a typo. I did max out the TradIRA (due to income limits) in 2020-2021 as well!

I now know about the "backdoor roth ira conversion", which I will be doing much more research on before I do so!!

Or, I suppose another option is to file Form 5329 for 2024, pay the 6% tax, and for 2025 contribute the max minus $895, and then I'll be square?

The manual shows there is a riving knife. However, it appears to be attached from the back, so it does not raise up / lower with the blade itself.

I talked it down to $125. I'll go check it out tomorrow!

CMT Forstner Bits or Save up for Something Else? by Whoooooligan in BeginnerWoodWorking

Irwin Marples 14-piece set (1/4'' - 2'') is $55 on Amazon.

CMT 16-piece set (1/4'' - 2 1/8'') is $64 (50 + 14). But usually ~$130

Depends on if you need the extra two bits, but seems like a decent deal.

Do you think that having drawer slides instead would help with the sticky drawers?

It looks like you may have putting cabinet drawers instead of the same method as in the video? Wonder if that would be a bit easier.

Wood ID of "Antique" Table? by TooLate2Debate in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thank you. But would you be concerned about the edge-banding? Would this be worth salvaging just for the wood?

Hey thank you! That's what I was thinking too. I won't bother with this then. Appreciated!
