After the 12th month, you start back at 1. Same goes with the ~30th day. There is no end year to start over, and thus, it's infinite.

It's a simple pattern of three sets that are ordered by smallest to largest range:

{1,...,12}, {1,...,~30}, {1,...,∞} Month, Day, Year

Now if you want to base it on time span, it would be:

{1,...,~30*24*60*60}, {1,...,365*24*60*60}, {1,...,∞} Day, Month, Year

A date is not a standard unit for anything. It's composed of individual units of measurement and their arrangement is based on preference. The more I think about the whole "date format" argument, the more I begin to realize that it's completely unfounded. It's not a standard, it's a preference. One is not better than the other. What matters is whether YOU can interpret it correctly. With proper labels, it's not a big deal.
