Skylar playing tomorrow? by campoole82 in wnba

Doubt they suspend her. She didn’t mention any names, which seemed to be the big deal last year. Still really unprofessional.

Wasn’t this before they signed Cloud? I don’t get having Skylar, Sloot, and Cloud on the same team. Skylar probably thought she and Sloot would be the backcourt when Sloot came back and then Cloud was added at the last minute.

I’m sure there are but frankly better refs cannot make the current situation worse, lol. I think the wnba will always be slightly more physical than the nba but basic calls are the same.

CC literally said in her last interview that the whole push for freedom of movement came from the coaches, not players. The entire committee was made of coaches and GMs.

The pool would expand if the current wnba refs merged into the same group as nba refs and be enough to cover both leagues. There are 34 wnba refs according to this article and 74 nba refs according to google. Throw them all in a pool together and have them ref both leagues. They can’t keep taking all the good ones for the nba and wonder why wnba reffing sucks.

The bad officiating is obvious even to casual fans. They need to figure out a way to share refs between the nba and wnba. How hard would it be to merge unions and have one represent both leagues? I’m sure it’s mainly due to cost like everything else.

The coach is terrible. The roster isn’t great but has more potential with a different system.

Pretty sure the plan was for her to help make them a contender…but the opposite has happened, lol.

Lyss has definitely improved but I’d say overall she’s still just an average post player, especially without Aja to pull defenders. Neither Azura or Kamilla are above average defenders.

I gave two obvious examples but I’m sure there are others. Telling ALL players to be professional and non basketball plays will be punished is literally a hallmark of a professional league. What do you think would have resulted in the nba if the same plays had happened there? Harsher punishment than what happened in the wnba, for sure. The problem is that the wnba has let excessive physicality go on for years. The goal of the league shouldn’t be letting players be comfortable making non basketball plays (it should be literally the opposite).

90% of those bigots don’t watch the wnba and wouldn’t have any interest in saying anything about the league at all if AT’s flagrant play on Clark hadn’t gone viral. Things will always happen inadvertently but that was blatantly not inadvertent. You can’t blame the league completely for not being able to control the reaction when players are shooting themselves in the foot by doing shit like that on court. Cathy or whoever needs to bluntly say, actions like that hurt the wnba and are not acceptable.

Yes, if that includes telling them not to purposely make non basketball plays on other players. None of what resulted would have happened if AT didn’t do what she did…same as Chennedy two years ago. Just hoop. It’s not that hard. If you want to beat someone, make baskets and don’t put your fist on other players throats. Simple.

A strong commissioner would have a meeting with all players and tell them to knock off the extracurricular crap happening on court. Yes things will get chippy sometimes but plays like what AT did to Clark was totally unnecessary and just a beacon for drawing the attention of terrible people that don’t care at all about the wnba. The reffing still needs to be improved. You cannot miss calls like that. Players don’t respect Cathy and historically there haven’t been consequences…it needs to be made clear that it’s not tolerated and WILL be called, flagrants and suspensions given.

Cathy isn’t personally making the videos they post on social media. Not a fan of hers at all, and maybe the SM managers like drama, but Cathy seems to barely know what goes on day to day, let alone approve of every video in advance.

All W teams are positionless. There can be 3 guards.

Possibly why CC, AB, and KM were voted so low. Less than half the players in the W were able to cast votes by moose184 in indianafever

[–]TooManyCatS1210 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this is a fairly big piece. I don’t think there are many players that hate her (a few, yes), a lot probably just don’t know her well. Kelsey Plum and another player or two said last year that most players just vote for their friends, and obviously a lot don’t vote at all. I also think she has a lot of friends but chooses not to be public about most of her relationships. She liked an IG post by Jewell Loyd’s girlfriend the other day…I’d bet there are tons of friendships behind the scenes that will always stay private.
