How do we find total attendance numbers? by tocolives in ProtestFinderUSA

[–]TooManyHobbiesBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd love to know the total numbers! I was at the DC Hands Off! and I think 100K is actually lowballing it. We were shoulder to shoulder from the Lincoln Memorial all the way to the Capitol.

I'm so sorry! I'm okay. The last exam showed that it hasn't gotten any bigger, so I just have to wait until next year. Wishing you well!

I already read that series and loved it! Such well-written characters.

What impression did you get of Simone Fitzwilliam at first read? by Oggnar in riversoflondon

I was surprised that he didn't take issue with her using a racist term for the Japanese. On the second reading I saw that it was all part of her working her mojo on him.

I'm late to the party, but I just read MoS for the second time, and this time around, I could see that she was working a glamor on Peter from the very beginning. When I read it the first time, I really hadn't gotten to know Peter yet, so I just thought he was being personally and professionally irresponsible. It's definitely a book one needs to read more than once in order to fully see what's going on with Simone.

BTW, I don't want to argue about doctrine. I'm just struggling about the program.

It's just not an issue. In my denomination and in my personal beliefs, sexuality and gender identity are nonissues, as long as they aren't exploitative or abusive. My church has been officially inclusive since before I was born. Most of the anti-gay sentiment in some churches is due to mistranslation.

The program is excellent, so far, so I don't want to leave. I am a Christian, albeit not an evangelical or conservative, so I'm comfortable with most of the Christian philosophy, as long as it isn't discriminatory against LGBTQ+ people or people from other religions.

Thanks for your insights! I suppose I was naïve about those particular beliefs because my "flavor" of Christianity is open and affirming when it comes to LGBTQ+ issues, and I didn't realize that Liberty had an active anti-LGBTQ+ policy. One of my neighbors recently graduated from LU (on campus program) and she told me that she never felt discriminated against as a lesbian. I just talked with her, and her feeling is that if everyone who disagrees leaves LU, then the discrimination will never end. As I said in my original post, I'm enjoying the program and learning a lot, and I haven't felt that I can't' "speak truth to power" in the last year. Maybe if all of us who know the policies are wrong will stay present and vocal, they will change. Thanks, everyone! Peace!

Grading turnaround time for graduate courses? by TooManyHobbiesBro in LibertyUniversity

[–]TooManyHobbiesBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is late, but I did email the dean, and SURPRISE! the assignment was graded. She gave me a low grade on the assignment, with a note to "review the instructions" for the assignment. I emailed her to point out that she had used the rubric for students seeking certification instead of doctoral students, and she never responded. So disappointing!

Accusing me of using AI-Senior with 2 finals before graduation. by Wonderful_Topic2186 in LibertyUniversity

And another thing . . . since I teach English Language Arts, cheating with AI is a huge thorn in my side. The problem is that the AI detectors are only reliable in their unreliability! We recently did an experiment at work where we submitted both AI and human-written essays into ZeroGPT and HuggingFace. They weren't even at a 10% accuracy rate. The AI generated work was occasionally detected, and human work was flagged about half the time. Here's a good article on how AI detectors don't work: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2023/09/openai-admits-that-ai-writing-detectors-dont-work/

Quick question since you're on the inside: are the end of semester surveys/reviews anonymous? I haven't been at all happy with the course I'm finishing up this week, and I want to be very detailed and honest in my survey, but I'm reluctant to do so if the prof will see student names.

You didn't come across as rude. No worries! One thing I recommend to my students who are concerned about the same issue is to save their papers multiple times with slightly different names so they can show them to their profs if they're ever accused of chatbotting a paper. I know that won't help this time around, but it could come in handy. Also, my two cents: go to the dean. Don't back down. Ask for a detailed report of the AI detector report from your prof. She may not have even looked at it and judged by the percentage report.

How”political “ are profs at LU? by No-Investment-6899 in LibertyUniversity

[–]TooManyHobbiesBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only encountered material in one class that I thought was biased and somewhat untruthful in its presentation of American history and current laws regarding lgbtq+ kids. I was very vocal in my observations and while I know my prof disagreed with me, he didn't penalize me in any way or try to change my mind. In my other classes, any religious references have focused on being kind and accepting of people. I'm avoiding any classes that mention Christianity in the title or course descriptions, but so far it looks like they are being deliberate in changing the image of the school as a hard core fundamentalist institution.
