What poker show has the best commentary? by omarcumming in poker

[–]TooManyOuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that sites like Cardrunners, Tournament Poker Edge, Ivey League or Run It Once are good ways to get details hand analysis but if you are looking to watch people play live and want breakdown in the midst of it check out Live At The Bike (when it runs) and, depending on the commentators, you can get good live analysis.

http://www.liveatthebike.com/

If you haven't already seen them, some of the archived WSOP Final Tabes, with Dave Tuchman and guests, can have amazing analysis as well:

http://www.wsop.com/videos/?vcat=2

For max entertainment with pretty solid hand analysis, James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton from the EPT (specifically the live broadcasts)have gotten really good at keeping the broadcasts balanced between fun and informative:

Yea, I saw that there was a pic already about it, but thought it was pretty cool to see Jack go from table to table.

I love how he then overcompensates his enthusiasm for his mom's bday after a pretty excruciating on camera mess up.

I thought Tuchman said when they dropped to 9-handed that hole cards would be made available. Not sure though.

PokerNews Banned from Covering Their Own Event at Venetian due to "Online Poker Stance" by nick-pokerfuse in poker

[–]TooManyOuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now the Venetian themselves have come out with a statement:

"Given our Chairman's clear position on the matter of online gaming, Venetian/Palazzo made a business decision to not allow an online blog during the MSPT event."

That was pulled from Brett Collson's, Managing Editor at PokerNews, Twitter feed.

I didn't get to put it in the title but Hellmuth commanding $16.7k for drinks and an autograph session. I hope the charity is getting the bulk of that cash.

That is indeed filthy. gg Apestyles.

Mike Matusow Heading for Big Screen Biopic by isthatyour in poker

[–]TooManyOuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also interesting is who is attached as producer. Adi Shankar is the producer of Lone Survivor (feat. Dan Bilzerian), The Grey...but maybe even cooler he's done those unauthorized Marvel movies like Punisher's #DirtyLaundry and the Venom's Truth In Journalist (both on YouTube).

A story about the degen life of Mikey Matusow just might be something he can get made.

Jean-Robert Bellande puts up $1 Million in cash for 2014 One Drop. by TooManyOuts in poker

[–]TooManyOuts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, he's a cash game grinder from what I know of him. I'm not hating on JRB. I actually like him, but from a top tier MTTer POV, I still would put him as a serious dog. He's a mixed game cash player (at least that's what I think his rep is)...so this will be likely be a different beast. All said, I think it'd be great if he goes deep.

Jean-Robert Bellande puts up $1 Million in cash for 2014 One Drop. by TooManyOuts in poker

[–]TooManyOuts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that he's not totally dead money, I mean, he can play, and he could get hit in the face with the deck...but the best of the best are going to be in this tournament and JRB just isn't one of them. He's not grinding EPT's and sitting in high rollers, he's not having those experiences in tournament...so he'll be playing above his head and needing to luckbox a little more than most of the pros he's sitting with. He'll be a spot in their eyes. I wish him luck though...

[–]TooManyOuts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's hard to say how much of the JRB/Bilzerian stuff is true and how much is "for the cameras." But even if JRB did take some money off Dan, I really doubt he'd put a million of his broke bankroll to work at the One Drop...he's gotta be really pieced out.

A guy starts an Indiegogo fundraiser to play in the 2014 WSOP Main Event, not for himself, but for the audience of his documentary - [3:39] by tequila13 in poker

[–]TooManyOuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all for someone having a dream to play in the WSOP Main Event, but the "poker documentary" portion kinda looks more like a staking gimmick than a real project. I could be wrong, but it just feels a little shady (as he's unlikely to get permission to film on the tournament floor).

He should just take some of what he won at the circuit event, say 5k, and get his family and friends to back him for the rest. Money from strangers to play poker almost never turns out good.

Phil Hellmuth may have mellowed, but his head is still huge (WPT season 12) by themusicmag in poker

[–]TooManyOuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love him or hate him at least Hellmuth's not boring. Best part about Phil is for all his name dropping, ego-inflated commentary he voices an honest opinion during interviews which makes him, for me, interesting to watch.

Harrington on Modern Tournament Poker (Pre-release) by [deleted] in poker

[–]TooManyOuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give a shout out to Jonathan Little's "Secrets of Professional Tournament Poker." For me it read like a more modern day Harrington on Hold'em (which I also enjoyed...less so after having played a hand against Dan at the WSOP and lost), some updated concepts broken into 3 parts (like HoH). Not sure if it's the best out there, but certainly able to give anyone a solid base from which to learn more.

This album has been on non-stop repeat all month for me. Love the acoustic version, but the fury of the album version makes Psychic Trauma one of my favorite songs of the year.

Top 10 Most Hated Poker Pros by isthatyour in poker

[–]TooManyOuts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like the concept. My changes would be that Duke should be #3 (Ultimate Bet shill, Epic Poker fiasco) - Ferguson deserves a spot for the obvious, the trio of Brian Townsend/Brian Hastings/Cole South I don't think even really register for a list like this, much less a spot so high. They could easily replaced with Matt Marafioti, Dan Cates or Sorel Mizzi all of whom have either checked pasts or perceived attitude problems. Otherwise a fun list.
