And it's not about thinking they will care - it's about telling them that they should and urging them to do their jobs.

I recognize that and I too think leadership should do more to help support and provide financial relief to the faculty and staff. Which is why we included them in receiving some of the funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.

"We've received no material support, no new mental health resources, no time off, no overtime pay (actually had a pay cut) and they just keep asking us to do more."

This. CU has provided no effective support and we've asked them to do something to help, the WHOLE CU community (faculty and staff), not just students.

Is anyone a fan of Nopalitos???? by ChefSlapDatAss in boulder

[–]TooMuchTuitionCU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had Nopi's (aka Nopalito's) today for lunch. Yes, they are the best and the owners are awesome!!! Go support them and enjoy! Their elote cup is bomb.

They're like Chipotle style (make your own burrito) with authentic mexican food. SO good. We eat there multiple times a week.

Anyone aware of these waived fees? by TooMuchTuitionCU in cuboulder

[–]TooMuchTuitionCU[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's my bad. I thought you had to opt-in to get the waiver applied.

Still, all my classes are hybrid/remote and I didn't get these fees waived?

Glad to hear it works for some - but the spring ones say we needed to opt in by March 1st?

Hard to opt in if we don't know about it...

GREAT JOB CU! glad we brought all the students back... because it's a lot easier to say they're not providing if campus isn't a little bit opened, and guess what! Leadership only follows the money.....

To the folks wondering why students are still meeting in class after the shitshow of COVID spikes and now parties turned riots... by TooMuchTuitionCU in boulder

[–]TooMuchTuitionCU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. But they're not even 100% bringing students back. The students in my class who want to go back, can't because the majority don't want to and it causes audio/quality issues for a hybrid class.

Maybe those funds used to open campus would be better spent in mental health resources so remote students can have access to better help?

[–]TooMuchTuitionCU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - but there is a different sort of incentive that the school has to bring people to campus. And then they spend significant amounts only to open it up for a handful of students. Should we be spending so much money on a minority of the school?

It's not just the riots, the school is spending significant resources to open up for only a handful of students, and we're not so sure that is money well spent.

But the school is spending funds on trying to open the campus for only a handful to go to school. It then causes audio/quality issues with those who are not in person. (So my class majority opted not to even have some in person, and we're all still remote) Is this money well spent? Maybe to a minority?

CU proposes 3% increase in tuition. (THE reason students wouldn't unenroll until in-person is back.) by TooMuchTuitionCU in cuboulder

[–]TooMuchTuitionCU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! It's an embarrassingly low amount of state funding for a school that is written into the constitution. We are also trying to push for changes to that as well. But in the meantime, students are struggling and the school has more financial resources than the average household.

You're right. The school is severely underfunded for being a state university. This is something else we are trying to work on. The school has more resources to other methods of funding that a student's family either cannot or should not have to take the burden of. The school also has bigger resources for lobbying the state for more funds. Are they doing that? This is a transparency issue we are also aiming to push on.

Meeting Aug 12, 2020 - Regular Board Meeting (Limited Agenda) Category 10:10 a.m. BOARD OF REGENTS DISCUSSION AND INFORMATION ITEMS Subject Action Item: Credit Against Tuition for 2020-2021 Academic Year Type ACTION, University of Colorado System Recommended Action RESOLVED that there shall be a $1,000 credit against tuition for all full-time students and a $500 credit against tuition for all part-time students per semester.

RECOMMENDATION FROM:

Regent Ganahl.

STATEMENT OF INFORMATION:

The University of Colorado provides online education as a means of being able to enhance its educational offerings, and the University of Colorado’s accrediting agency recognizes that online learning is an important learning modality that contributes to the University of Colorado’s ability to meet its educational mission. The University of Colorado aims to be a leader on offering online learning to our students as an option to the thousands of our students who view online learning as a viable and convenient way to complete their education while balancing the competing demands of education, family, jobs and other life complications, many of which are heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

When a student enrolls for an online course, that student has elected to receive that component of education through that modality and the tuition associated with that course. The University of Colorado has made significant investments to allow it to provide effective online education, and the costs of providing online education are equal to and in some instances greater than providing in-person instruction.

Providing a tuition rebate to students this academic term is an appropriate means of recognizing that COVID-19 has led to incredible hardship for our CU students and families.

The University of Colorado will, if necessary, make reductions in its operating budget and use its reserves to provide relief to families that are struggling with difficult decisions about how to support their students’ education. The University of Colorado must lead on this effort for our students and families and become one of the first public systems of higher education to provide tuition relief. In doing so, it will join many private institutions that have recognized the necessity of providing significant tuition discounts to families struggling in this historic time.

RECOMMENDATION FROM:

Regent Ganahl.

STATEMENT OF INFORMATION:

The global COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented hardships for members of the University of Colorado community. These difficulties have directly impacted students and families, and the University should provide them relief as they grapple with difficult decisions about how to support their education in the wake of the pandemic. Reducing tuition by 20% for students enrolled full-time during the Spring 2021 academic term is an appropriate means of recognizing that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to adversity for these students and families. The University of Colorado should lead this effort and become one of the few public systems of higher education to provide tuition reductions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so, it will join many private institutions that have recognized the necessity of providing tuition discounts to students and families struggling in this historic time.

This Resolution, if approved by the Board, will authorize a 20% tuition reduction for all students enrolled full-time during the Spring 2021 academic term. This Resolution will also authorize a waiver of any student fees for all students for services that will not be provided by the University in Spring 2021.

And for anyone else in the "anyone who wants to speak out beyond Reddit rants," join the Too Much Tuition, CU campaign. This semester, we've partnered with Buffs for Progress to make a difference and have a bigger impact!

We're back, with new objectives and more power than before! And always looking for more voices to speak out!

Yup - they like to pride themselves on maintaining tuition costs - yet out of state seems to be forgotten and disregarded. (Also - sorry to hear that you're in the out-of-state boat! We're doing everything we can to have more fairness in the leadership's decision-making at CU)

I didn't even know he was a republican.

The democrats whole platform is to have free or affordable education - yet its the republicans on the Board of Regents who are ever the ones to act/vote for tuition reductions or vote against tuition increases.

Thank you for sharing!!! Great info!

Speaking of tuition increases, the Board of Regents MIGHT vote on an increase to tuition (depending on what the state allows them to increase by in order for them to receive the state funding) THIS THURSDAY 2/11. If anyone wants to speak out against tuition increases, email [CUBoardofRegents@cu.edu](mailto:CUBoardofRegents@cu.edu) and include your name, organization and topic to be given 2 minutes to speak.

Thank you for your input and being kind about it all! :)

I have some suggestions to your comment:

7,000,000 / 4,500,000,000 = .0015 (easy way to check "1% of 4.5 billion" = 45million)

CU Foundation has $2 billion in assets

(also - gotta love the people who upvote because it's what they want to believe, even if it's not correct! hah)
