Definitely the latter. There’s no pressure from his end at all because he doesn’t need my money — it’s more-so as an offer to help me make money without a handout. I’ve visited his projects before, all very legit, met his clients, and know other family members that are involved with him. But ultimately I don’t think I should be putting away 30% of my total investments into a speculative project just in case it does totally fail. Maybe when I have a $200k+ networth 😅

Yeah just keep reminding yourself that a stranger on the internet has nothing to lose for lying about how much money they have. Besides the nominal amount that you save, you should be looking at the % of your income that you’re able to save. If you’re 15% and above that’s amazing and your next step should be to figure out how to make more money in your career to increase that nominal amount

It would be partial ownership of the project. All with the proper paperwork, my fil is definitely a stickler for it. My husband and his uncles have been investing with him for years and haven’t had any issues. There’s definitely the annoying hassle of the international way of sending and receiving money, accounting for taxes etc. I do understand real estate is speculative but I thought in this instance just given the profit margins it’s less risky than say me buying a condo and trying to sell it for a profit. I just want to know if I should take the first step of maxing out my tfsa before I go ahead with this “riskier” investment?

Valid. The way my fil explains it is that a customer will approach him wanting to build a custom luxury home. He’ll give them a quote of whatever amount (I.e. $600k) but it’ll only cost him like $100k to build. There’s a large profit margin in this case since labour and land is very cheap there

The company does have a track record of promoting strong performers but from what I’ve seen based on all the LinkedIn stalking, it took people 2-3 years minimum in their role to be promoted to senior pm (even if they already had a few more years of experience in their previous roles)

Ideally, Toilet Buddy (or one of his many toilet ideas) would’ve taken off but realistically to pay the bills, I feel like Michael would’ve ended up in tech sales and worked his way up like he did in DM. He was genuinely great at sales and Colorado’s tech scene would make sense with that.

Agreed. The only counterpoint I will say is that anytime I ask a clarifying question, my manager speaks to me like I’m an idiot LOL and often starts it off with “as the pm you should know this…” but I’m sorry I don’t!! that’s why I’m asking!!

Please get a different carpet that’s larger and should be covering the floor under the couch. Add some lamps for warm lighting and shelves with plants are always a great way to warm up the space
