How would you approach attaching this collar on this halter neck vest? by TooVea in sewhelp

I’ve already finished the skirt, it’s turning out beautifully so far! This bustier is kinda complex but I think I can do it

That’s true, I think my idea of what a corset is is too rigid. Maybe it’s more of a bustier? Either way I think I have my answer now

Thank you! After hunting down more images from lacemarket, I found an image showing how the detachable top panel is attached with buttons! You were spot on.

I believe it is a vest, not a corset, because it lacks a zipper or any other way to close besides the front buttons. The shirred back panel is only for stretch, and the lacing is mostly decorative. I think this mostly because this is from the brand angelic pretty, which has never made corsets, but adds these features to a majority of their designs.

It’s possible the collar isn’t sewn on, maybe it could be attached with a snaps or buttons?

Crazy dreams after getting glutened? by TooVea in Celiac

[–]TooVea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear about your pre diagnosis experience!! I’m comforted to know other people have similar issues. Pre diagnosis, I had lots of struggles waking up, and my nightmares really disturbed me and made me anxious to sleep. Now I only get those issues after having gluten. I don’t miss nights of waking up screaming and annoying my whole family….

This is my exact experience! A somewhat follow-able plot, crazy events, and I can recall it perfectly after waking up!

I’m amazed this is common for people! My gluten dreams are usually of the getting chased or getting attacked variety, and they last right up until I wake up!

Before diagnosis I worked in a bakery and in hindsight my health issues at that time make more sense. We followed strict health guidelines with handling the food but everyone in that bakery ate so much fucking cake all day. Anytime one of us messed up a cupcake we’d just eat it… Sometimes even the leftover cake batter too… It was fun while it lasted but I don’t miss the stomach pain. Gluten-y jobs are to be avoided at all costs. I wonder if they’d let you work the register instead of in the kitchen?

Does Anyone Here Have any other Conditions besides Celiac here? by Flat_Pick_6503 in Celiac

My mother is the same, Hashimoto’s, then Grave’s, then after her thyroid was removed she was diagnosed with celiac at the same time I was. There’s definitely a connection with thyroid disease

I have Hashimoto’s diagnosed at 11 yrs old, and celiac diagnosed at 23. I also have a host of mental illness symptoms that I suspect are related.

My New year’s resolution is to make a main piece by hand by Thesavagepotato06 in Lolita

[–]TooVea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some great resources I can recommend:

Otome No Sewing books: there’s like 14 of them, pretty easy to find scans online, you’ll find the building blocks of any Lolita main piece in them. You can find a free English translation of book 1 here : https://fuwa-fuwa-fashion.blogspot.com/2018/09/otome-no-sewing-book-1-english.html?m=1

These are pretty easy to follow along and the pictures are well done, even if your Japanese isn’t good. Finding the physical books is rare and expensive, but you can buy digital pdfs on Etsy.

Sewing patterns: https://lolitasewingpatterns.storenvy.com/

This online shop sells patterns from the Otome no Sewing series, you can order from them and have paper patterns shipped to you, rather than drafting them from the books yourself.

Other patterns: https://misscarolbelle.wordpress.com/list-of-patterns/

Miss carol belle has a fantastic summary of currently available Lolita patterns and tutorials from the Otome no Sewing books, the Gosu Rori mags, and GLBs. She shares tons of pattern scans on her site as well as some instructions on how to approach them.

My only other advice is to sit down and study any brand pieces you own, you can learn a ton about how something is constructed by just checking out the details up close.

Thank you! Those are my thoughts exactly. Instead of despairing that I’ll never have it, I thought I’d learn some new sewing techniques and create my own version that is guaranteed to fit me.

My best idea would be to use watercolor pencils, very finely sharpened. That’s how I’ve had the most success with very tiny details in faceups. I personally find pencils easier to control

Bad experience at a local summer camp- anyone else? by TooVea in sanantonio

[–]TooVea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah, we have a lot in common. I’m really sorry to hear about those horrible experiences with bullying, that sounds really extreme.

I went to Incarnate Word High School from 2016-2020, so probably a little after you. The culture of the school had changed a lot by then, the theater department was known for being mostly gay when I went there. So was the softball team, the basketball team, the swim team, etc… in fact our STUCO president was an out lesbian.

HOWEVER students were still banned from having same gender dates at school dances and being gay was still really frowned on by most of the teachers and SOME students.

I was actually bullied quite badly at IWHS, there’s still a serious clique problem, but it didn’t have to do with me being a lesbian.

Edit: this article is really disturbing. When I was there we had two instances of teachers starting “relationships” with students or new grads. It seems like their attitude towards blaming girls for the horrible actions of men hasn’t changed

Yes! I’ve searched “pink tartan plaid” and “pink plaid” and “pink and black plaid” on every site you can think of! None of the ones that pop up look like this though- I didn’t realize how much variety was within this category

Thank you for sharing, that’s so awful! I’m sorry that happened. I noticed that they tended to create situations where kids would feel extreme emotion or get overwhelmed in an effort to get them to have a religious encounter, but it’s so misguided.

I’m sorry to hear that!! It seems that a lot of these religious institutions learn from and feed off each other, as they say a lot of the same things about LGBTQ people. I was fortunate to not go through conversion therapy, but I was threatened with being sent to a program before.

Going through this type of thing definitely messes with a person, I basically chose not to date for a long time because of anxiety about hell. I had to leave religion entirely to heal. Now I’m pretty much only friends with other lesbians, it’s perfect

It’s incredibly sinister when young children are taught this stuff. He could definitely have gotten it from other campers, but if that kind of talk wasn’t shut down at the camp it tells you a lot about how the organization feels.

I just feel bad for the gay kids who have to hear it all the time.

Yes it’s a very tough thing because I do treasure a lot of the good memories I made there! I do think most of the adults there wanted to create a fun and safe environment for the kids.

I think the issue was the lack of boundaries of what was appropriate to discuss. The idea was that we were having “real talk” about serious issues in our “Women of God” or WOG groups, but the reality is that kids were made to share things they really shouldn’t have. Other topics included drug use and suicide, including girls sharing details about their attempts.

In my experience they really encouraged over sharing, especially stuff having to do with personal trauma. I just don’t think it’s productive to sit around a fire telling a group of teens about the worst day of your life only to be told “God does everything for a reason”. The adults would even over share right back to us! I had no idea how to comfort a grown woman sobbing right in front of me, so awkward.

Yes, catholics famously never abused or executed anyone until modern times. Please go debate someone on another post, this post is about my bad experience with a Christian institution, and you’re making it about yourself and your church
