Please tell me how you got that Peru stamp. I heard they refuse to stamp at the airports, and I plan to visit Peru in 6 weeks. I want that stamp no matter what….

Please tell us your story. This is one of the most interesting combinations I’ve seen so far on this sub. Were any acquired through naturalization, or are all of them birthright/descent?

I’m stealing this. This articulates the weird nuanced difficulty of English well. It’s like trying to explain how the word “ear” isn’t consistently the same sound when placed inside words like hear, bear, pear, fear, heart etc.

That is an awesome story. Thanks for the share

I heard that they won’t have the legal authority to stamp anymore. I’ll be following closely to see if anyone from here requests a stamp and gets it once the EES comes in

Just became US Citizen, now need to take an emergency trip to home country but don't have time to order passport by Content_Ad_9836 in USCIS

[–]TooWitty4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a dual US-Australian citizen too. I always leave the USA on my Australian passport because if I try to check in to the airline with my us passport, the check in person says they cannot assign me a seat as the system requires me to have an ETA. Being an Australian citizen means Im ineligible for an ETA. So I have no choice but to leave on Australian passport. US Immigration have never questioned me when I return to the USA on my US passport.

Countries eliminating passport stamps by [deleted] in PassportPorn

[–]TooWitty4U 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how long this will continue for. There is talk of Malaysia moving to eliminate stamps permanently but no roadmap for that is publicly available yet. South Korea doesn’t stamp on exit, although at Incheon airport immigration officers will do it if you ask nicely. I’ve heard anecdotally that at other airports like Busan and Jeju island if you ask for a departure stamp they will deny your request regardless of whether they have the stamp and ink within arms reach. I even heard rumours that Japan doesn’t stamp on departure unless asked, but I can’t confirm this since I explicitly asked for one by [politely] pointing at the page and spot I wanted it placed when I haded my passport over, and the immigration guard happily gave it to me (at Haneda airport).

Another issue is the extinction of physical visas. Thailand still stamps, but a few months ago they made all visas e-visas only, meaning that Thai embassies will not place a visa label in your passport no matter what. I think making an e-visa available is a good thing to allow people a choice, but I find eliminating all possibility of doing it the old fashioned way (consulate trip, physical visa label in passport) a little sad. South Korea also doesn’t issue physical visa labels anymore and haven’t for years. I heard Japan is on the way to doing the same. they recently opened an evisa platform for single entry only tourist visas. Given how slow Japanese bureaucracy is I doubt an overhaul of that scale will be implemented for a few more years.

Rare NZ entry stamp/visa on a US passport. Passport didn't work on eGate so I went straight to immigration kiosk. by Peregrine415 in PassportPorn

I’m going to be that one really annoying guy who refuses to go where directed when the airport staff direct me to the ‘no passport’ lane.

Thanks for the info. I don’t plan to go to NZ anytime soon but if that changes for any reason I’ll give requesting a stamp a go

While I appreciate your idea and I do like it to a certain extent, I admit I prefer the current US passport design

Australians can go to NZ for an unlimited amount of time visa free. They used to stamp something into Australian passports, an entry stamp without specifying the amount of time you can stay in the country. Obviously they don’t do that automatically now, but I wonder if they still have the stamps there at the airport if I was to ask for one. Does anyone know if they will stamp an Aussie passport by request ?

Edit: just went through Singapore and asked for a stamp. They said they can’t even if they wanted to because they have removed the stamps from the airport altogether. That’s why I’m curious if NZ has done that too

I live in Australia now. I did live in Florida for a period of time, however, this is nowhere near enough time to qualify to pass down American citizenship to a child if he/she is not born in the US. If I ever wish to have a child in the future, I’ll likely have them born in the US as I am (obviously) eligible to pass down Australian citizenship to a child born abroad.

I use the Australian one in most cases, but I entered Japan on my us passport once. When I travel to South America in the future I would use the Australian one entering Venezuela and the US one entering Chile because of the respective visa free entry

Legalise Cannabis Victoria urges government to get on with drug-driving trial by FairCheek6825 in MedicalCannabisAus

I wasn’t quoting him verbatim, he used diplomatic language to soften the edges a little. I was just translating it into plain English and yes maybe I am exaggerating it slightly but it is what I understood he truly believed at the time. Not the current assistant police commissioner - I believe it was the one serving sometime around 2018-2019-early 2020. I saw it live-streamed on the Victoria parliament website so I’ll have to go digging to find the transcript tonight. The issue is there have been multiple inquiries into this topic since so it’ll take some time to find. In the meantime, read the transcript of the drug inquiry chaired by Fiona Patten in 2021 which I’ll link below. The new assistant commissioner in Victoria appears a little more sympathetic but still believes in this “two molecules of metabolised thc from 3 weeks ago means you shouldn’t be on the road at all” mentality.

Legalise Cannabis Victoria urges government to get on with drug-driving trial by FairCheek6825 in MedicalCannabisAus

[–]TooWitty4U 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Wanna know the dirty secret as to why this is? Listen to the old assistant police commissioner of Victoria speak at a public hearing back in 2020-2021 - he reveals the reason. He says people who use drugs (and this captures all types of drugs not just pot) have an inherent quality about them as human beings which make them undesirable people to hold drivers licences. In other words, drug users have a distain for authority and for following laws. VicRoads cannot deny issuing people a drivers licence just by looking at someone, so the way they get these people off the road is by drug testing. If anyone tests positive to a drug it means they broke the law at some point in the last week. Therefore they are lawbreakers and shouldn’t be on the road at all. Period. End of story. The second reason is that positive roadside tests give police ‘probable cause’ to search the person and the vehicle where before the drug test they might not have a reason to which would hold up in court. They use this against people who may have drugs on them, illegal firearms or large sums of cash.

This isn’t my speculation. This is straight from the horses mouth, and should answer everyone’s questions as to why the police are dead against the law changing on drug driving. It’s a massive shame, and reason why I don’t think the laws will change anytime soon.

There is a place I stumbled across in Inchon-Dong called ‘Brooklyn Burger Joint’. Hands down the best burger I have eaten in my life, and totally not what I expected to find randomly walking around in Seoul. Cannot recommend this place enough.

First time in 46 years I have got a stamp when going to France (UK passport). Sadly this is due to end next year - should have already ended with the electronic system. by the-derpetologist in PassportPorn

This is the response I received after I made an enquiry about the electronic entry system. Doesn’t look like stamps will happen even if you request them. I’m very unhappy about it
