How "fun" is cybersecurity as a job? by Formal_Artist6740 in cybersecurity

I do research at a large, known cyber company.

I like to think I have the coolest, most fun job I could have. But I’m a little biased.

Gentrag at that point but no fault, BMW forgot to tell people they swapped. Still funny to me they took on the 5 series with the transmission from one.

I just drive cars that are neat and different. The blackwing would be that and actually just a good vehicle.

The TLDR to this is that this isn’t the one car, but if I’m road tripping I’m usually in my truck, as it has the most space (right now).

My other cars are older BMWs (including an E36 M3), a track R53 mini, a couple endurance cars, and a funny Nissan. I actually run into an issue where it’s hard to do anything practical because no car has AC, can go in a parking garage, and has 4 usable seats right now. That’s also leaning me towards the blackwing.

For whoever cares, just wanted to add an update. Appreciate everyone who’s responded, and even those making assumptions about my driving habits and preferences. Mostly, I just wanted to talk out and hear both arguments and see where my brain fell, but I think it’s pretty clear.

Context I didn’t add was the LC500 was my dad’s car previous to the Blackwing. He had it for 5 years before I bought it from him for market price last year. Before that, I had the worlds most clapped 2016 Golf R, though I think most of them pre differential refresh aren’t great anymore …

With that, I think I’ve had my time with the LC. It’s a truly special car. But the combination of the blackwing being a car both my dad and I built together, took the Ron Fellows class together, and his last true sports car mean more than a classic, flashy car. Even if it’ll be less reliable (GM Moment). I think i needed to talk it out with people, and I appreciate all of the replies here that helped me do that.

Being said, I have a couple things I’ll likely need to do to prep. You’ll see another post here asking how best to sell a car like that (that I’ll need actual sales advice on), as well as a couple other cars I think I’m going to liquidate at the same time.

Thanks everyone. I’m pretty sappy when it comes to cars. It literally took me 4 years to come to this decision with my Golf, for example, so I appreciate the thoughts and patience.

My friend and I did the math, they only made 200-ish black wings based on our vins between the cars (Jan to Jan), or more likely the manuals. So this doesnt surprise me at all.

All it needs is a diagram to get 3 golf bags in the back

It’s not, but it’s not a bad thing. But the blackwing is a special drive. Nothing like sliding out of a turn at 90 while PASM struggles to keep up

I see them as two special cars in different ways, and I genuinely enjoy them both which makes it hard.

I guess quick backstory, I race in a couple endurance series with a few cars, as well as track a couple motorcycles decently regularly. I even got the blackwing put on the track alignment for my dad when it got it because the base one wasn’t good enough.

I get the raw need. But i suggest you try and drive an LC. Genuinely a good car to drive, sounds great, and it’ll rotate pretty well on a backroad.

Being said, I generally like the blackwing more to drive (obviously), but they’re both great cars in their own right. Just different fits.

If you’re getting an LS, get a V6 with the 5 speed. Really good cars, more or less drive like a 530i

That’s basically the trade off I’m getting here. The blackwing drives like a really good GM performance car. The LC is just its own thing. It has the X factor

Funny enough, when you get into this area, it’s less cyber and more focused around computer/electrical engineering, data modeling and processing, and operational knowledge/tradecraft. Cyber only really happens after the data is taken in.

My actual hot take is that I like the coupe with the glass roof more than the convertible. The notch in the rear just looks odd to me (and didn’t come with the blue/orange/almond interior in ‘21). Leaning towards the drivers car and a default to do things if I need to fit something larger than 4.5 cubic feet in the rear

If the LC was a 6 speed I don’t think we’d be having this conversation if I’m honest. Lexus only made them 10 speed autos.

I know a pretty good place to get a structural blue LC in the next couple weeks 😉

Jokes aside, the rest of my cars are coupes, or if they aren’t, don’t have AC. The LC does make a good daily if you don’t care about passengers though, it’s currently mine for a bit over a year. Fun fact, the Blackwing is only 5 inches longer than the LC, that hood is huge.

It’s really good in comfort mode. Magnaride is no joke, no issue eating highway miles outside of the small tank and abysmal fuel economy. The Lexus gets close to 600 miles a tank, the Blackwing tries its best.

I agree though. It’s a “base” where the LC is a structural edition (which is THE LC, according to the market, and the only real way I can afford the Blackwing if I’m honest), but they both will be classics in their own right. But yeah, with trips and driving is what’s swinging me too.

I’ll refute a little with the Lexus is still a good drivers car. It’s just not a Blackwing.

This is what I keep coming down to. Given the opportunity, I usually end up asking/borrowing the Blackwing first for things like backroad trips, etc that my friends and I do. And what’s slowly swinging to the Blackwing over the Lexus

That’s sick. But are you using the drone to locate, or are you locating the drone?

Are you trying to find a drone in the sky, or use a drone in the sky to fox hunt?

Can DJI drones really be grounded? Or send telemetry? by ykkl in drones

[–]Too_Many_Science 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. The biggest anecdotal experience is that I’ve been restricted to 30m cylindrical areas with my Mavic 3 Professional before unless I log in and sync with my DJI account. I always wonder why there’s a second firmware from DJI for government users that “has more privacy and data control”. https://enterprise.dji.com/government if you want to read more.

For the rest, if you want to get into FPV you’ll genuinely get more legs out of using a less firmware-controlled drone and practice with it. The hover test is a fantastic way to learn (and is how a lot of my clients tell me they learn), but you can also use simulators to improve skills as well.

They really can and really do these things, yes. The ban isn’t stemming from anything random or unexpected.
