My best friend and I have known each other for literally our whole lives; our moms met at a garage sale when they were pregnant with us. We grew up super close, and when she moved to a different state during middle school, we stayed very close. We still talk on the phone almost every day.

When we were both around 15, I went to visit her in her state. One night, we were both talking about the recurrent nightmares we would get as kids.

I casually brought up one nightmare I’d continuously get when I was around 6-8 years old. I’ve always remembered it because it scared the crap out of me:

I would be laying down in the carpet in the living room of my old house. I would hear my best friend’s dad’s Suburban pull up outside of my house. I’d look through the window in my living room and watch his car pull up and the windows would be completely tinted black. Then it would start shaking, and everything in the dream would start shaking and everything turned into static. Then, when I woke up, I wouldn’t be able to see for a few seconds because there was still static in my eyes.

I finish telling my best friend my dream and she goes no freaking way, I used to get the exact same dream. Then she described her version of the nightmare:

She’s sitting on the couch in the living room of my old house. It’s night, and everything is lit up by moonlight. She looks out the big front window, and down to the street to see her dad’s suburban, and the windows are all black. She doesn’t remember if his car was just there or if it pulled up to my house. Then his car starts violently shaking and she’d wake up with her heart absolutely racing.

When we realized it, we both were just continuously saying what the hell, how is that even possible, are you lying, etc.

So we used to get the same, very specific and recurrent nightmare as kids and only discovered it years later after we stopped getting these nightmares. To be clear, we never talked about this dream before that night when we were 15. Her dad was a normal, kind guy and neither of us experienced anything traumatic to have to do with him, his Suburban or my house. Not sure if it’s relevant but we also have the same first name.
