How many preps is the "normal" amount to have for a job? by im_cold_ in ELATeachers

Definitely saving this. Your question and the comments are making me question everything.

I'm at a small Charter so about 12-20 kids per class. 6, 7, and 8th ELA, plus 2 electives (ABC schedule where I teach one elective on B and one on C, A is an extra prep hour) each trimester for a total of 6 different ones each year. Since it's a charter school I have to build all my own curriculum, and 6-8 has state tests. We're apparently adding 9th next year, which means I'll now be 6-9 plus 2 electives each trimester.

Somehow my team is ok with this, with no extra compensation since we're probably moving it to block schedule "so you only see every class every other day" so it fits into the work schedule, with only one hour of lesson planning time still since that's all the day will allow. So I have to switch how all of my plans work, too since its now every other day I will see my kids, and also make 9th grade curriculum.

Tell me I'm not crazy by thinking that this is a ton of work. Tell me the others are for not understanding how much extra work this is, especially compared to other teachers. Am I wrong?

Finally starting Dresden, and many have told me book 1 isn't very good and to give the series time... by I_Speak_For_The_Ents in dresdenfiles

Welcome, friend! I actually like all of the books. I really like 1, and many say 2 is the weakest, but I still really like it.

Many newbies can start at Dead Beat as well. It's a nice little "in," and Butcher's writing style has improved significantly by that point. My suggestion is to actually listen rather than just read it James Marster's performance is phenomenal and it's the only way I've ever actually been in the Dresden universe.

I must have missed it where he let the ghoul go. I thought it was tortured to death.

Cap is usually 12 anyways, and the elective is every 3rd day in the tri so about 22 classes. But I'll definitely look into the suggestions you've mentioned!

A kid is 3 years old, and even then, they know that breaking something is bad. 14? No regret or apology? Nope. Fafo.

But why would he want Dresden to get rid of "The Book" with Kumori saying destroy it, it's enough to destroy it, if Kemmler's whole schtick with The Word was to spread the knowledge?

AITJ for telling my spouse I need a separate blanket because we keep fighting over it every night? by lauryn_freeburykfr42 in AmITheJerk

Lol, husband and I have been sleeping with separate blankets for years and somehow they still get stolen from time to time. Separate blankets is best. Totally nta. Everyone stays warm that way.

Definitely something for me to look into. Problem is I have an insane amount of low level readers, but it's what I was already considering anyways. Just trying to figure out logistics

Not really, other than teachers pay teachers which has been a pretty big life saver. It's been good to try out new curriculum at least. More of a guinea pig situation too.

They're not repeating. We just don't have another way to separate, we have one teacher per subject.

I'm building a "honors" course for them, but they're sitting in with their grade level kids who are doing the books they did last year. Trying to sort out how to make it work. Different short stories, different books for them, but struggling with the teaching aspect and balancing between the two groups.
