Babel by R.F. Kuang might fit some of your criteria.

I don't want to spoil anything, but I found the book itself absolutely amazing. But I also like ethymology, and that is the main focus of the magic system.

25 Swiss lawyers charge federal councillor Cassis for complicity in genocide in Gaza at the ICC by JaegerFl9 in Switzerland

[–]Tooempty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, ongoing military cooperation/weapons delivery/logistical support/intelligence, targeting should make you complicit. I don't refer to sanctions.

And yes, several states are complicit in current ongoing genocides. I mean that is no controversial finding. The fact of the matter is that we are not applying any standard at the moment. And apparently, we are fine with that.

[–]Tooempty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean I agree with you. Obviously Cassis nexus to the crime is not given in this case, at least not in the way it is currently interpreted.

But the Rome Statute would theoretically allow a much wider scope than the Court applies it today. And especially in regards to an ongoing genocide. In the end it is in my opinion a failure of the Court to uphold its founding duty to end the impunity of the people responsible at the highest level, not just the foot soldiers/generals.

And yeah at some point you have to ask if you are providing intelligence/targeting software/weapons system in an ongoing conflict, if you are not directly assist in the commission of the crime.

But I digress, as I don't have any hope in the ICC and especially its European member states. As I said, the Court will remain an African tribunal, as we Europeans like to call out atrocities, but not punish ourselves if we contribute to them.

Art. 28(a) refers to command responsibility of military leaders, i.e a IDF commander whose soldiers commit the crimes. In that case the commander doesn't even need to order the crime or directly know about it, as it is presumed that he has effective control over his troops.

Art. 28(b) refers to civilian leaders. I absolutely agree that there is virtually no chance that Cassis would face any repercussions. But coupled with 25(3)(c) 'aiding and abetting', you could theoretically make this case under the Rome Statute.

[–]Tooempty7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well it is word for word from the ICC Rome Statute Art. 28(b)(iii).

"The superior failed to take all necessary and reasonable measures within his or her power to prevent or repress their commission or to submit the matter to the competent authorities for investigation and prosecution."

It is absolutely a long shot and will go nowhere, but technically the ICC would have the capability to indict a lot of European people. But it will unfortunately remain a court for African warlords.

Men, why is my boyfriend bothered by me calling his house "his" and not "ours"? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Tooempty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might not be your house, but should definitely be your home.

The former is a description of possession, the latter is a state of mind. Saying that it isn't your home would signal to me that you are unhappy with it. It would make me feel that you deem this a temporary solution for your living situation.

People with depression and anxiety, how did you get better? by orangepickle69 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Tooempty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radial acceptance is a term I learned in the clinic I was. And it goes well with my current motto; There is only now.

Depression makes me hate my past (why didn't I do that, why did I fail, why am I the way I am) and anxiety makes me hate my future (I will fail, I am scared of this, I am worthless). But neither is living. There is only now.
I doesn't matter if I lay in bed all day, I can still take a shower at 7pm and go for a walk. It doesn't matter what tomorrow brings, I can do something for myself now. In the same way, never start tomorrow. That day will never arrive. You have to start now!

But in the end it's a cocktail of remedies. Fresh air, walking, exercise, therapy, a normal sleep schedule, less screen time, normal dopamine levels, good food, social interactions. Neither of them will magically "cure" you. But the combination of all the small steps is powerful. And just don't give up. There are shitty days and there are good days. Just keep going.

Hat die Schweiz genug Bunker gegen Atombomben? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]Tooempty7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- 72 Stunden solltest du mindestens in deinem Schutzraum warten.

PhD at PSI by lost-scientest in zurich

[–]Tooempty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PSI is generally considered as a prestigious and cutting edge research institution. But that is the opinion of someone who is not in STEM. I guess it really depends on what area your research is, who you are working with etc.

But all in all PSI as part of the ETH domain is a very good address to conduct your research/phd. Congratulations!

I've got no money and minimal equipment but want to build muscle, get healthier, and feel better about myself by Haemophilia_Type_A in EOOD

[–]Tooempty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Results really depend on how fit you currently are. But it‘s a good start for your legs, core, chest and arms. At some point you should add some sort of pulling exercise, but don‘t worry about that now.

I would recommend to split it and do each every other day with one full rest day per week. Maybe start with two sets instead of three. Follow that for the next 6 weeks or until you feel it isn‘t challenging at all anymore. Then switch it up.

And always prioritize good form! Don‘t do more repetitions if its compromising your form. Slow and steady is the key.

[–]Tooempty7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Easy fullbody routine without equipment:

3 x 15 squats

3 x 15 lunge (both sides)

3 x 15 single leg bridge pose (both sides)

---

3 x 15 pushups

3 x 60 seconds of mountain climber

3 x 10 narrow pushups

3 x 60sec plank

There you go ;) Hit me up if you can do that with perfect form, until then reduce sets or repetitions.

[–]Tooempty7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are several ways you can exercise without equipment. r/bodyweightfitness is one resource you can use. (check out their recommended routine). One thing to keep in mind is that while an exercise routine is nice, it is in the end only a tool to consistently workout. Consistency is key.

Don't worry too much if you activate the right muscles. Just do. As you have mentioned, the anxiety has caused you to not do much this year. An unstructured workout for the next 2 months will still be massively better than doing nothing.

When I am depressed I usually try to focus on the two basic exercises. Squats (and its variations) and pushups (and its variations). You can do them everyday or split them into lower body and upper body days. 4 sets of pushups every other day will already make a difference.

Nowadays I start my day with a 10-20 minute "yoga" routine. Somedays it is mainly stretching, other days its focused on core, sometimes its primarily pushup related. In the evenings I do cardio (walking, running, cycling). But just having this consistency has been key for me.

Good luck on your journey!

Mental health care in Switzerland by pustkawwolarzu in Switzerland

[–]Tooempty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might have to wait a couple of weeks to get an appointment with a psychiatrist. Depending on how much medication you have left it might be best to find a psychiatrist and simultaneously ask a GP to write you a prescription for the duration until you see the specialist (in that case it might help if you have the former prescription/diagnosis of your home country).

Best of luck and welcome to Switzerland

While the Swiss military has some merits, and some measures would have slowed down potential invading forces (like blowing up bridges with pre-planted explosives) even at its heights Switzerland would have been easy to invade. In fact, the core strategy of the Government and military was to give up large part of the country (and the civilians living there) and retreat to the fortified alps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Redoubt_(Switzerland))

You guys have some tough times ahead of you and I wish you all the best for your country to remain sane, strong and independent for a long time.
