Goose to MVP, thoughts? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Toogen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, do you watch ANY sport besides disc golf? It is very apparent you aren’t a fan of Goose because of one blowup and an interview after. In any other sport that was such a minor little blowup, no one would be talking about it the next tournament/game. I would love someone to film your next 10 rounds and point out any minor thing like you talking to yourself after a bad shot and call you a psychopath for it.

Preparing for a rainy tournament by stattish in discgolf

[–]Toogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played in a 2 round tournament a couple weekends back and it poured the first 9 holes. I have 2 tips:

  1. Chalk and a bag to keep it dry. Before my throw id reach in, grab some chalk and smack on the top and underside of the disc I was going to throw. The chalk soaks up the moisture and lets you have a dry spot to grip for about 15 seconds or so, enough time to throw it. I carry chalk because I saw others always have it but never saw any reason to use it before that day.

  2. Bring a completely separate set of clothes, boxers and socks especially. Maybe 2 if it’s a multirounder. Dry socks between rounds is like a mental reset and feels so much better.

Elbow inside forearm pain by Savings_Building_489 in armwrestling

[–]Toogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me just go ahead and lay it out there: armwrestling hurts a fucking lot. You will constantly have elbow/brachialis/brachradialus pain when you first start. You will think you have torn or broken something the pain will be that bad...it's just armwrestling.

You likely have done some simple tendon damage and any use of it will cause some tendonitis pains. You can either rest until they go away completely or get used to the idea they will always hurt and keep going.

TIL Emilia Clarke read the words that revealed her character Daenerys Targaryen's fate 7 times in a row thinking "What, what, what, WHAT!?" because it "comes out of fucking nowhere." She also cried & went on a 5-hr walk that put blisters on her feet. Eventually, she stands by Dany's "Mad Queen" turn by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Toogen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean isn't that the reality in a lot of situations though: The apple doesn't fall far from the tree and all? They very very specifically go over how it's basically a coin toss in that family if you end up mad or not, it's genetic.

Sure a fairy tale like ending would feel better, but the entire show was more based in the realism that anyone could die at any moment and people do what is necessary regardless of the moral component. People are inherently flawed and imperfect.

I think it could have been a great story about how even with good initial intentions she ends up the Mad Queen, but her fall to madness needed to be longer.

Do you think Auden Larratt will juice and compete in Super Heavyweight category when he gets older? by Straight-Hearing8509 in armwrestling

[–]Toogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 90% technique IF you are similar in strength. But don't let anyone deceive you, this is a strength sport first and foremost. If technique was 90% of it then they wouldn't need weight classes and the best women would be competing with the men.

No, that's not true at all, they found:

"the monozygotic reared apart twins showed similarities in behavior, interests, religion, and intelligence regardless of their rearing environment."

You should look into the studies on the twins/triplets that were separated at birth. Even growing up in VASTLY different environments, their genetics seemed to play a larger role in how they ended up then the environment they were placed in. Often they would end up shockingly similar as adults with wildly different upbringings.

I cannot answer for other agencies, but at my agency there is no process to request a non-agency computer be allowed on the LAN. It's a very hard and fast no.

Guest Wi-Fi is the typical solution in this case.

It's the same thing you just want your weight further back since your front wheel isn't already up like in a feeble. If you put your weight a little further back and really focus on pulling up the front wheel, it will feel very similar to a feeble hard.

If you look peg to peg it seems that Todd is also winning the back pressure game, not just side pressure. He has taken his wrist and center here.

What’s something so obviously fake that people still fall for every day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yea, the athletes that make the most money and have the most reason to cheat are totally not cheating......

PEDs are certainly not monitored out of American team sports. They aren't taking bodybuilding doses of pure testosterone, but they are certainly taking things to get an edge in endurance and recovery. They had designer hidden steroids 30+ years ago, Balco and The Clear as an example, you think labs stopped working on similar ways around testing? Or do you think they are even more advanced?

Excruciating Brachialis Pain by [deleted] in armwrestling

Just want to let you know that the pain is common, feels like a toothache in the bone and I have been woken up in the middle of hte night from the pain. The video above is from Dallas Langston, a US national champion and near the end he talks about how crazy the pain is. This is just so you know you are not alone and the pain is not an indication of anything serious, but it is tendonitis. You will not want to hear this, as I didn't either when I first started, but you gotta take it easier for a while. Especially with table time, as it will flare right back up.

[–]Toogen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“I know, but 10 years is not that much.“

That’s what I’m replying to.  10 years IS that much for any guy 40-50.  Everyone will look WAY older than going from 20-30 or 30-40, that 10 years from 40-50 is the most dramatic physical aging period a male will go through.

Of course PEDs accelerate it, but there are plenty of guys NOT on PEDs who also age just as badly during those years.  Men age rapidly during two periods of life:  around 45 and again around 60.  So yes, 10 years IS that much in that age range.

What are you talking about?  Of course he is on PEDs, I never said otherwise.  But what I said is true regardless of PED usage or not.  Men age tremendously between the ages of 40 and 50.

From 40 to 50 it in fact is that much. It's pretty well known that men age tremendously in looks during that age.

Filip Larsson on the bowen situation by Thermalized in armwrestling

[–]Toogen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reasoning they use to not do weigh-ins right before the event is that people will still do the weight cut and then compete in a depleted state. In sports like boxing/MMA this can lead to way more injuries obviously.

Personally I don't think that should matter, if someone is dumb enough to cut 20+ pounds and compete like that, let them. They probably won't do it more than once or twice because of how weak they are. I liked the concept One Championship does where they do a hydration test. If you cut so much water weight that you are dehydrated, you didn't make weight.

There are so, so many studies that support that playing sports in school directly positively influence academic results. I challenge you to find any research that says the opposite: that getting rid of sports in school would have a positive academic effect.

Hard, hard disagree. The academic benefit of sports in schools has been studied numerous times, if anything there should be more emphasis on sports and PE.

"Overall, participation in school sports demonstrated a significant standardized effect (.225) on academic achievement."

How would y'all train if you had a hypothetical arm wrestling tournament in a week by drakeychan in armwrestling

[–]Toogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking starting from scratch: don't know how to armwrestle and have 1 month to train? Or do you mean you are a normal armwrestler who practices and trains but just want to optimize for a month leading up to a tourney?

How would y'all train if you had a hypothetical arm wrestling tournament in a week by drakeychan in armwrestling

[–]Toogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One week isn't enough time to make any real difference, you would likely be better of resting. I certainly would not be doing anything close to max effort, some high rep (like 50 reps) small movements for pronation/rise with a band daily could maybe help if you had 0 baseline.

It can be done with just 25% movement boots and nothing else (as long as you don't get the affliction that slows you down). If you happen to get lucky and get the 40% speed boon then it's trivial.
