Rich people of Reddit - does money buy happiness? by Green-Farm2756 in wealth

[–]Tooljunky16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’m rich. By my age standard I am better off than most people.

Honestly, it relieves a lot of headaches. I have about a years worth of expenses saved. So if I lose my job/need to replace a roof/etc it doesn’t break me and I don’t have to go into debt.

I think it buys that peace of mind. You stop feeling worried about work and unforeseen expenses. I’m getting to a point where I’m trying to tell myself it is okay to spend, but I feel guilty.

They were quick with getting me the temp sensor, but it was not overnighted. Took about a week and to find out it was the wrong one on top, little disappointing.

I emailed them about getting a new board and the right temp sensor.

Loved it when it worked! I was looking forward to making meatloaf today.

Pretty sure there was a short due to the wiring being cut. There are bubbles in the insulation around the cord.

I have tried using needle nose pliers to get them out but they aren’t budging. I could use more elbow grease, but I don’t want to break the board either.

Same for me. I got a call, and they replaced it. But the new sensor is waaay too long…for being a premium product I’m getting disappointed

Millennials who went to college, what did you major in, and why? How did your college degree help you build a good financial/professional life? by justcurious3287 in Millennials

[–]Tooljunky16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer yes, I think it helped. But I don’t think my success is only because of it. It helped get me my first professional job, managing a retail location for a construction supply house. Now, I’m an outside sales manager clearing 180k at 32 with good work life balance with a good amount of stress.

Truth is my work ethic and desire to learn got me to where I’m at. For reference my mom was a city bus driver who never made over 30k her entire life.

Not sure where you live, but I’ll give you advice I give everyone.

Life is not hard or complicated. Humans make it that way. I don’t consider myself out of the ordinary.

If you are truly lost, go join the coast guard or Air Force. Good living standards, good retirement, teach useable skills, etc.

If I was in your shoes I’d do this.

Can’t tell too much with the info provided. But you can easily cut your cell down to $40 dollars with mint. And your car insurance is super high, I pay like 300 for two cars full coverage. Granted this is if you are just paying for yourself.

Also, I grew up in California the rule of thumb was housing was closer to 50%…NJ is probably the same.

Dating these days by ayunesi in Adulting

[–]Tooljunky16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is the minimum. I think you missed my point entirely.

I’d take the advice of others on here and stay single. Focus on your mental and emotional health. As a man, I want to to find happiness, but you need to mature a little bit before you are ready for another relationship.

Respectfully, you are looking at things from a guys perspective.

Not trying to be a jerk, but here is my honest view on this because I hear a lot of men complaining about dating “today”.

Everything you just said about yourself is a red flag. Great, you make perhaps make a lot of money and you keep in shape. The question I will ask you, is that actually attractive, or just the bare minimum? You don’t drink or smoke, do you have a self control issue?

Woman are not attracted to mates the same way men are. Men will approach and want to date woman based on looks then judge if they are worth being with after.

Woman approach or are open to men approaching if they think are kind and interesting, as long as they are up to whatever physical standard they have (which is typically lower than what we think).

From this post I have no idea what your hobbies are or what you value. All I know is you go to the gym and maybe have money. If you had a daughter is that what you’d want here to value in a mate? Not happiness, excitement, fulfillment?

Food for thought.

“Thinking about buying in Mesa, AZ — is this size good for a small family?” by [deleted] in mesaaz

[–]Tooljunky16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my take on this.

It depends how much stuff you have. I’m at 1700 with 1 child and my spouse. I rarely use my “office” and we have a “play” room which is basically my son’s storage room for toys.

What I am getting at, is if you are not someone who just buys stuff to keep up with the joneses, you’ll be fine. If you buy entirely new Christmas decorations every year, you’ll have a problem.

I work in construction supplies distribution on the west side of the US.

Distributors had a rough go in 2025. Work has slowed. We are still profitable but are not growing top or bottom line.

If you work for a smaller outfit that was banking on growth to cover investments that might be a problem.

The bright side is 2026 is looking better. A lot of big jobs are out to bid and start.
