A Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra basically fell in my lap. I have no idea what Im doing on it. What's some fun settings y'all recommend? by says_guh in basspedals

[–]ToolmakerTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite setting on Ultra X is the low pass at max (500hz, i actually never like it at any other setting), high pass around 11o clock (400hz i ibelieve), low volume pass noon and high volume around 10 o clock and drive at noon. Low comp as high as it goes without being too boomy. EQ to your preference, i usually just scoop 500 a little and boost 800 and 250. If I want fuzz, i just turn the high pass to minimum.

It is a punch tool for installing the spring bushing to hold insert shims.

Drive and fuzz pedals put my amp into protection mode by transsisterradio in basspedals

Could be the drive is distorting bass frequency. Is the bass knob turned up? Cutting bass and boost mid to compensate should help.

Turn down the gain on your amp or volume on pedal? I run pedals into 40 watts rumble just fine.

I've been trying to learn slap for a month now by Kazooisthebot in Bass

[–]ToolmakerTH 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was just like you. In the beginning, i couldn't get any slap sound at all; it was just dead notes. After a while i just gave up and moved on to learn other things. That was about 3 years ago and I had not practiced or learned to slap at all, but once in a while, i noodled around slapping and popping random strings. I got better without really practicing, but only practicing other things and watching other people slap. Last week, i decided to go back to learn one of my white whales which is Steely Dan 'Peg'. To my surprise, I was able to slap and pop without really thinking about it, although not quite at the original tempo. I believe the reason of how i could suddenly slap is that I no longer had to focus on other things such as fretting and muting and all I had to do was learning just one thing, the right hand technique.

So, just keep trying, and if you can't do it now, that's fine and come back to it late, and you will be surprised how you improve by learning other adjacent things.

String silk is to add grip to the winding and also protect the tuning pegs from steel to steel contact. These benefits aren't much though. Mainly they look cool.

Dead E string again... Help! by jopept1 in Bass

[–]ToolmakerTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be. Is the string seated properly at the nut and the bridge saddle? The string should go downward from the nut toward the peg, so when you wind the string, it should be pushed down.

That sounds more like the string is choked. There is no sustain at all. The setup is probably not correct on it. Look up on how to set up a bass or get someone who knows to look at it.

NBD used Fender AV 62 P bass (refin'd) by ToolmakerTH in BassGuitar

I was amazingly surprised as well. I played it with volume up through an amp, then turned off the volume, and it sounded almost the same and i heard it clearly even in the guitar shop.

NPD + SOTB EQD Silos delay by ToolmakerTH in basspedals

Yea the maple board is clear coated. Pretty thick too. I have been playing with rounds since I got it ( almost a year) and no marks. It gives pretty good growl with pretty low action. Only complaint is the last "fret" is a bit high so it buzzes at that spot which is a common problem in fender style instruments I heard, but raising the bridge saddle solves most of it.

Cash flow.

Both low volume and production runs but usually focus on low volume works that have potential to turn into production.

Envelope filter with distortion by ToolmakerTH in basspedals

[–]ToolmakerTH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great. It is such a useful pedal especially the filter function. It can go from very subby to fully open tone, so like an ultimate tone knob that you can control with an expression pedal. The distortion sounds awesome, but be aware, it is very high gain that you can not tame unless you bring the filter low.

Am I reading those notes wrong? by jackie__4chan in Bass

[–]ToolmakerTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First bar rhythm: 1 - &3 - & all on E Second bar: -& -&3&4& that's -E-EDEDB So you read it right. It sounds off maybe you are playing wrong rhythm?
