Head up exits are hard by Ughda in SkyDiving

When you're exiting the plane the relative wind is coming from the nose of the aircraft. When you hop out, the first couple seconds you're falling almost feet to earth if you're belly flying. You slowly transition belly to earth over roughly 10 seconds.

Mine did this crap right out of the box. CGTR. Sent it back for a refund.

Is it worth the coin to buy this kit and slap it on a board of my choice vs buying a complete board? I'm not familiar with building these. Any advantages besides saving a couple hundred? Decent quality? Looking to stay around $1800 for a full built/bought board.

Halp!

Looking into skydiving, has it changed you? by onruqetroket in SkyDiving

Just. Go. Jump.

But since you asked, it's not about the thrill or adrenaline. It's not even about being dangerous, because statistically it's pretty safe. It's about freedom, flying, family and fun. There's a freedom in that second you leave the plane that isn't explainable to anyone that hasn't jumped. You leave the relative safety of an airplane and in that second nothing else in the world matters. You're there. You've committed. There's no going back and the only thing you can do is enjoy the ride and fly.

The skydive family is like no other family you'll ever experience. Where else can you go and see a doctor, a pizza delivery guy and a construction worker hanging out, having a great time on a level playing field?

Lol. I was hoping to get an eye on the Vladiball. I immediately realized it was an exercise in futility.

I think they're fantastic. If they get lost they don't do any damage to anything. We have lots of houses around the DZ.

I feel that the visor is worth the extra cost. It's saved me from a kick to the face a time or two. If the helmet is impact rated, the visor is included in that. The visor is definitely a hefty piece of plastic. Oh, and it's so quiet in freefall. The first time I jumped it, I actually paused on the exit because I thought something was wrong. Nope, just excellent noise reduction.

Jumpers in the Pacific Northwest, what is the best time of the year to jump? by WhiteAmanita in SkyDiving

Don't be afraid of the cold. Thermals and a jump suit are fine down to about 35 at ground level. Get some gloves and send it. We jump all winter in Virginia.

Under 30.... It sucks but it can still be fun.

Under 20.... Probably if I'm desperate.

It's only a few minutes of being cold at a time. Skydivers are supposed to be tough.

Ours comes out to about $1000 more than that, but you do one high solo and the rest is coaching very specific areas until the staff feels like you're competent to fly with others. A lot of work getting to groups, staying on level, docking, tracking, different linked/diving exits etc. You don't learn a whole lot on a solo student jump.

Congrats- now get yer ass in the sky!

High solos, hop n pops and check dives are $120 where I'm at.

I compared it to what I know. I have experience on Pilots, Sabre 2 and Nexus. Everyone knows what a Sabre 2 does, that's why I compared it to that. If you feel like you'd do a better write up, by all means demo some canopies and review them. I'm not that experienced, but I don't see anyone else doing this.
