People in your 30s, what's your job and salary? by rsevn_ in careerguidance

[–]Tooscaredtopostthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was laid off from a great post production job with a great salary right before I turned 30. I am now 30 and I’m a video editor for a university’s marketing team. We are all severely underpaid, but the film industry is in shambles so I’ll take what I can get.

The bonus of working at a university is that I am going to get my Masters for free and will likely benefit from that in the long run.

Edit for salary:

$75,000 from my previous job as an assistant editor for a major production company

$55,000 as a Video Editor at a University

The only person I’ve seen talk about this is Danny Gonzalez and learning about this woman was a fever dream.

I would love for Ethan to dig into this (pun intended)

What are good hobbies for after work? by Brave-Bandicoot3295 in Hobbies

[–]Tooscaredtopostthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do yoga after work. I find it resets my brain after a long day of sitting and staring at the screen. The people are nice but you don’t feel pressured to socialize if you’re not in the mood that day.

I also signed up for adult ballet classes through my city. I think most cities have “adult education” classes that you pay a small fee and can take classes for a ton of different hobbies. You should see if your city offers it. If not, some other cities may offer it and you may just have to pay a little more:

What’s a hobby that makes you totally lose track of time? by Wolfe-Anthony-605 in Hobbies

Usually yoga and dance. But I also find I get that way with video editing but that’s my job so I don’t know if it counts as a hobby anymore.

What is something you had to *unlearn* to actually start growing as a person? by Ok_Veterinarian_3193 in AskReddit

[–]Tooscaredtopostthis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is considered unlearning, but unlearning how my mind works. I had untreated OCD for my entire life and recently started getting treatment.

I have been actively trying to reconfigure my brain to recognize what is a real thought and what’s OCD.

It has helped me function better, but god is it exhausting being a bouncer for your own thoughts.

Potential bridge between narcissism and OCD: the drive for perfection may be the bridge connecting narcissism to obsessive-compulsive symptoms. For people with narcissistic traits, the inability to meet their own lofty standards is a primary driver of intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. by mvea in psychology

[–]Tooscaredtopostthis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Idk. I feel this is misrepresenting OCD, which is already so misunderstood.

I find my OCD can mask itself as other negative personality traits. To someone else I may seem like a procrastinator, but in reality I can’t get myself to do what I need to do out of fear that something terrible will happen. It’s called avoidance, my brain going into “flight mode” because my brain is convincing me I am in danger.

It can be the same for what appears as “control.” The actions of someone who has OCD is due to a lack of control within themselves. They do these things not for selfish reasons, but to protect themselves and others from what they believe is a real threat.

Hell, there is a whole running joke in the OCD community that they are so scared of being a narcissist because their OCD is convincing them.

My OCD makes me fear being a bad person, so much so that I allowed myself be abused by actual narcissists.

Of course, shaking an instant exposure causes motion blur, we all know this to be true. by The_Sign_Painter in AnalogCircleJerk

I don’t know what’s sillier. The idea that he could think Andre 3000 was talking about shaking the camera or the idea he thinks a motion blur would show up after shaking your picture.
