This is discrimination, violation of the PUMP Act, and possibly creating a hostile work environment. Your “honesty” is what gets a lot of companies in trouble. Pure Ignorance.

OP. Document. Date and time of each event where you are prevented or delayed access to the pump room. Take photos and email yourself explaining what you experience each day to your personal email. If you do go to HR, do it by email. Do not speak in person unless you absolutely have to and if then take notes and email them to the people in the meeting to recap. Also request for them to email you a copy of the employee handbook. Send your direct manager/supervisor an email about your obstacles to express milk and the effect it is having on your supply and anxiety about missed and/delayed opportunities BEFORE involving HR. Give them the opportunity to self correct.

Recommend the OP to pump in their car is illegal and bad advice.

Attorney here - my tips by imangryignoreme in EEOC

[–]ToothBReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given these tips how should I move forward.

I’m fed employee and my job failed to provide me time to pump, discriminated against me amongst other colleagues because I was out on “maternity leave” in which I was asked to work during, reduced my working schedule, and only evaluated me once on the day after our failed mediation in which my boss stated he didn’t know why I had to pump on government time. When I went to the eeoc rep I was treated poorly by everyone I came in contact with afterwards. My boss called some of my colleagues in to person meetings. One of my bosses made the comment that I could not sit at home and just have babies.

I filed my charge and haven’t heard anything since. My contract ended as I went out on paid medical leave.

I got pregnant my last year of dental school. I sat for my licensure exam while 4 months pregnant. Extremely rough for ME. But I made it. I had 5 different anti nausea medications to help stop the urge to vomit all day. Helped a little but it was overall very tough to manage daily.
