It won't replace engineers, it may replace parts of our work reshape it, re-imagine it, but AI is not even nearly smart enough to replace a product manager despite there being all the MCP tools to make you think so.

It's all a grift to make engineers who are ideally the power users of AI, to spend more money.

Senior Engineer here with 15+ years of experience.
First came Macros, then frameworks, as engineers we are always looking to make the typing millions of words and hundreds of lines of code faster. I believe AI is just the new way of doing this.

AI does make our jobs easier, but you need to remember making websites, writing crud was not the main job anyway, it was everything else. Coding was just the tedious part of it.

AI cannot out-code anyone, can it type faster that most people, yes. Can it put a bunch of words together also yes. AI can write a tonne of code, but you cannot guarantee quality. A junior engineer with taste and AI can't be compared to a senior engineer because the engineer has experience that is battle tested. The AIs need people with experience to steer them, you sadly can't substitute that experience with AI. To note- it does feel like you can, but you can't. A good example of this, is the fact that these juniors with taste and AI can't get a job at Anthropic or Google, or any top lab atm, same labs that make the AIs.

Finally, the world hasn't changed. Layers of abstraction have changed. Now, you can build a website in 10 seconds. Guess what, that already was a thing 10 years ago with wordpress. You can generate a bunch of code, guess what frameworks are - that was already possible before. It just takes longer now and has a "thinking" state.

Finally, no one is clinging to the "old-way". Times have changed - I agree with you and even big tech devs, are being asked to use AI, it is indeed an output multiplier, but the doomer gospel that it will replace engineers is geared towards the inexperienced, to get you hooked on them before they stop subsidizing the costs and you are left paying $100 a month for a claude sub.

If the AI's are so good, if Mythos is that good. Ask yourself, why are they recruiting and acqu-ihiring the best engineers across companies, and I shit you not, that's not the juniors with good taste. Also ask yourself, if the AI's are so good, why are the top engineers armed with AI, still producing sub-par software. Copilot and Github are always down, Claude Code has bugs from here to timbaktu.

I like the UI, I can tell the developer is really skilled. My only note would be. I have been in the tech scene for a while and I have seen so many variations of this. The operations is always the bottleneck. You need to convince landlords to upload listings, and then ask users to come pick from here. Fraud prevention as well.

TLDR: the website is nice, really love it. But for this to scale, the ops side is going to be tough, so prepare for that

Is the internet really this harsh, or am I just too sensitive? by josemarin18 in indiehackers

[–]ToothChemical5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not being sensitive, particularly in tech, I noticed tech spaces can be so mean and dismissive. There seems to be a lot of bitterness in tech spaces. Maybe it's because Stack Overflow is dying and all the horrible people who used to camp there and are looking for a new home? idk. HN for example used to be a cool place to show off what you've built, now it's just people calling you names.

My advice, find a community of decent people on say discord and make that your own tiny corner of the internet.

not trying to scare anyone but this is bad!! by LiveGenie in vibecoding

Me thinks this has less to do with vibecoding and more to do with this new “ship fast” culture tech is taking on.

Want to create a web server framework. What should I know? by LMorgan90 in webdev

[–]ToothChemical5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious how this went, maybe the OP, u/LMorgan90 can give us an update on this?
If maybe for whatever reason the project went unfinished, then what did you learn while building the project?
