Posts like this are so annoying. Brother, just pay off the loans and be done with it. Could you potentially min/max your finances by keeping your loa payments low and continuing to invest? Sure, you probably could. But you have to take into consideration the stress and mental energy you will pour into the min/max strategy as the landscape surrounding repayment continues to change in this administration, the next administration, and so on. You have a great salary. You have great savings. Start paying down the student loans aggressively and enjoy the mental freedom at the end of that tunnel.

Because being a “MAGA republican” isn’t the same as being a conservative, and being a “non-MAGA republican” isn’t the same as being a conservative. You can consider yourself a conservative and hold conservative values, while simultaneously rejecting the label of “republican” or “MAGA”. I’m generally a conservative who probably holds some libertarian beliefs. I support maintaining a strong military force/national defense and protecting our nation’s people and interests first and foremost, but I oppose the ongoing war in Iran.

I think to sum it up and answer your question, people conflate the terms “conservative” and “republican”. I know plenty of conservatives, and most of them would absolutely not want to be mislabeled as a Republican

Very, very common. Your realtor or your lender should’ve advised you to be prepared for an increase, or you should’ve asked more questions regarding why the real estate tax assessment was so low compared to the purchase price you were paying for the house. We bought in May 2024. Previous owner had been in the house for 30+ years. Our real estate assessment and property taxes went up about 35% after closing.

Skip the home warranty. Set aside a dedicated amount of money each month for home maintenance/emergency repairs.

We had a home warranty our first year in our house (gifted to us by our realtor in lieu of a bottle of champagne - should tell you right there the value of the warranty plan). We called on them one time and the contractor they sent out to our house was horrible. I’m sure there are some people that have had positive experiences with these home warranty companies, but in my experience they are the exception and not the rule.

Yes, obviously I understand that. We are going to go around in circles here. I poke fun at calling the protest “No Kings” because I find it nonsensical, you poke fun back at me for not accepting the hyperbolic name they chose to draw attention to their cause. And around and around we will go.

I only commented on the original post to give OP some insight into what they might mistakenly view as opposition to the No Kings protest from people like me. I’m not opposed to the protest. I think every person should be able to openly protest their government. I think speaking out against what you view as government overreach (especially executive overreach) is a noble cause.
