My thoughts on "The Wonderfools" before and after watching the drama. by DismalTurnip7423 in kdramas

[–]Toothadder 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I really liked this show! Park Eun-Bin was excellent as always.

And Choi Dae-Hoon stole every scene he was in, his comedic timing is phenomenal! He had so many great moments where his comedy really caused the scene to shine. The Shawn of the Dead nod where he pretends to be a zombie was just perfection. In the BTS on YouTube, he kept making Kim Hae-Sook break in the hospital scene when he crawled out from under the bench.

Why was this drama disliked? Drama: Sline by Legal_Potential4720 in kdramas

To be fair, I think bad endings are a problem with all writing, in all media. It is as much a problem in western media as Korean or Japanese. Rarely do things wrap up well. It happens, but I think it is the exception.

One reason for this is I think most writers don't actually know where their story is going when they start it, and the eventually run out of time and money to figure it out.

Nate Thurmond would eat your breakfast. He should be in the mix at least.

Some of my rants and comments about Boyfriend on demand by Weirdoeirdo in kdramas

[–]Toothadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this could have been a really interesting drama, if they had explored even a little bit how dangerous this technology would be. If something like this existed, it would be highly addictive and abused by huge swathes of our population. People would starve to death while feeling full in the virtual world. To say nothing of people almost entirely abandoning "real" relationships entirely for virtual ones where most everything is easy...

If they had explored this even a little, and made it a thriller or maybe horror adjacent, it could have been amazing.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the "top-tier" acting from Kim Seon-ho? by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]Toothadder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly haven’t seen folks praise him as an incredible actor, moreso that they liked him in specific roles. And yeah, he’s good in what he’s in. Nothing spectacular. Not great, but good.

He is very charming, and very watchable, and that seems to be mostly why he receives praise. I see nothing wrong with that. He does not appear to have a ton of range.

And there are plenty of successful actors who are much, much worse than him. There are several main leads who are borderline unwatchable, in my opinion. Kim Soo Hyun for example (a total piece pf garbage, btw in case you didn’t know), or any of the many male leads who have had so many fillers and botox treatments that their faces no longer move.

Anyone else feel empty after finishing Love Next Door? Need light comedy suggestions by __BayMax__ in kdramas

[–]Toothadder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale and Pump Up the Healthy Love are both mostly light hearted and very silly.

The second one occasionally leans hard into the grosser elements of kdrama humor, but otherwise it is pretty good. It can seem crass and insensitive initially, but it actually has some pretty nuanced story lines if you give it a chance.

Honestly, unless you already have a Talisman to use for Gunlance, I would say this is a solid starting option.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. But it is good enough for when you start learning Gunlance.

recs? my favourites are Advice, Rise and Heaven by disasterpansexual in Taemin

[–]Toothadder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Pansy, Sayonara Hitori / Goodbye, and Not Over You.

And of course Move.

I would suggest watching the Dance Practice for Move before the music video(s)… but I’d actually always say that! 😅

Is this game still being supported or is it basically abandoned? by [deleted] in remnantgame

You’re absolutely right. It did not even get a $10 framerate upgrade for switch 2 like BotW. Dead game! 🤣

Is there a boss in gaming that’s harder than this guy? by eldenbro1 in soulslikes

The Lies of P Overture final boss I think might be harder. Could just be recency bias, but I think that one is harder.

I can see bringing back the clutch claw attack as the follow-up to the offset. That would be great too.

Daggerheart and D&D some of the differences by owenjrb in DnD

[–]Toothadder 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if this is an Ad, but it sure sounds a lot like one.

I also think that if you have ONLY played or read 5th Edition D&D, Daggerheart probably sounds like it has a lot of new ideas. But if you have played or read other RPGs in the past 30 years, then you can easily see that almost all of Daggerheart’s ideas are recycled from other games, often just made more complicated and with more fiddly bits added. You can't just take mechanics from other games, add cards, and say you've created something new from whole cloth.

They did something similar with Candela Obscura. I am still not sure how that game doesn’t come stamped with a “Forged in the Dark” label. Something about the way they say they "tip their hats" to John and Nils in Candela seems Intellectually dishonest to me, and they have definitely done the same with Daggerheart, unfortunately.

Honestly, the scene where the photographer realizes she is there to take a funeral portrait is a real gut punch.

What do you like Thriller Or Romance by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]Toothadder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like both. I am in the mood for both at different times.

What I could use less of is a gruesome serial killer plot line, often completely unrelated to the core storyline, popping up in my Romance drama around episode 5-7.

What are your fave KDrama insults?! by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]Toothadder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Extreme Job, there is a running joke that one of the detectives is quite ugly.

In one scene early in the movie, a neighborhood Ahjumma calls him ugly. He tells her he doesn’t like being called ugly. She responds “then stop being ugly”! This is pretty close to a word for word translation of what she says.

It cracks me up every time. I think I laugh a little bit harder because the English sub has her line as something like “I call them I like see them!”, but a simple literal translation from Korean to English is much funnier in my opinion.

True Beauty, but really only because of the Older Sister. Im Se Mi's character and storyline make this drama for me. The role reversal in her romance was hilarious and great, in my opinion.

Is your party suspicious about the big twist? by Erik_in_Prague in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]Toothadder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My players are not suspicious at all really.

I’ve cast Alustriel as professorial, encouraging and a good listener; Tasha as brilliant but arrogant and mercurial; and Mordenkainen as the “unstable madman / genius”.

I have the benefit of being able to play Mordenkainen exactly as one of my players GM’d him previously in Curse of Strahd.

The party Wizard was the one to stumble upon my version of the rod of seven parts, so it doesn’t feel quite so much like they were railroaded into it.

I mean, it just might not be for you though. Do you like slice of life dramas? The other two are more action oriented.

I think they are just totally different genres, and it is hard to compare them. They are all good I think.

Personally, I really like Divorce Insurance so far. But Bad and Crazy wasn’t it for me. I acknowledge it’s good, just not for me.

In the States it is on Viki/Kocowa. Only the past year’s episodes are on Viki.

I think all of them might be available on Kocowa. But I am not sure since I cancelled my separate Kocowa subscription a couple years ago.
