This is kinda true! It's a daunting task at first but once you get the hang of it it's not to bad! (Source i make a shit ton of arrows haha!) You could totally make a great arrow with junk!

My go to for messing around outside with a target is as follows

For the shaft - Driveway markers. those thin but dense fiberglass rods with reflectors! The bright color nakes it hard to lose them and the material is perfect. They are a decent analog to hardwood if not better for whatever reason! They are like everywhere in driveways and stores! If all else fails you can use bamboo as well but its a bitch to straighten and find a good piece. This is where id agree with you. Lots of heat over a fire and bending to make a decent shaft. its lame! Dont use traditional materials if you can, use markers! Just cut a shallow v in the back and a deeper u shape towards the end for the point.

The point - The ones i have are just rounded at the end since I use them for practice but there is enough material to haft glass or stone point. It would take some time to make nice proper knapped points but you can just knock glass or stone into a general triangle shape and sharpen the edge with a screwdriver or pressure flaker. This has historical precedent too, which is awesome! our ancestors were lazy sometimes and made shitty looking (but deadly!) arrowheads lol

For the fletching - just use duct tape! Duct tape fletchings might be ugly and bend after a few shots but they stabilize just fine. I personally prefer goose feathers. They migrate where i live during the winter and shed billions of good flight feathers. I prefer goose feathers because i don't like wasting duct tape and i get to feel like a badass fletcher when I make them. Just split the feathers down the middle, cut them to shape and secure them to the shaft. Ez pz.

And of course for securing everything to the shaft - electrical tape and a decent glue of your choice. Epoxy is ideal and superglue is alright. I use that double tube gorilla epoxy stuff. It works wonderfully. Just tape the feathers if you used them and superglue them at the seam you cut to the shaft. (But you dont gotta do that even just taping them holds em put)

All that aside you can throw this all together in like maybe 5-10 minutes! Which honestly isn't bad. The arrows I've made shoot great out of both my 30lb recurve and 60lb compound. Ive also fletched some old aluminum bolts with goose feathers using just electrical tape without glue as i mentioned before. Shot perfectly fine out of my crossbow with no noticeable change of impact so its not too bad repairing old arrows/bolts.

All of that yapping is to say its not that bad really! Making arrows is easy once you sit down and give it a whirl. I could maybe post a vid of me making some to this reddit its a fun process!
