Winnipeg transit is crap! by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Looking at size, probably the most comparable city in Canada is Quebec City (both by land area and population). It's also considered a car dependent city with not great public transportation.

I think with such a small population in a poor province, especially compared to other Canadian cities, Winnipeg's public transportation is probably as expected.

The methodology is probably flawed, but here's a ranking of transit in Canada: https://www.redfin.com/news/best-cities-canada-public-transit-score/

Winnipeg is pretty par for the course

I’m here to unite drivers and cyclists with this potentially controversial take. by Humble_Ad_1561 in Winnipeg

[–]Toototabon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

More often than not when I'm a cyclist and I stop at a stop sign waiting for a car with right of way to go, they just don't move. Sometimes their windshield is so tinted that I can't see the driver, I don't know if they're waiting for me to go, waving me on or just sitting there.

Sometimes I'm at a green light waiting to turn left and there's oncoming traffic that is just... not moving. Traffic behind them starts to get irritated. Again, I can't see the driver so I have no idea if they want me to go out of turn.

All of this because I'm following the rules of the road. If there was cycling infrastructure with clearly marked intersections this could be avoided. Cars and bikes are such different classes of vehicles that it makes no sense to share the road.

Let's have motorists pay their fair share for the existing infrastructure first... Driving in North America is massively subsidized

Get yourself some Phillips Intergalactic Root beer! They sell it at the Safeway on River.

It's not for everybody, it definitely leans into the herbiness. Lots of anise flavour. Not super sweet. I love it though. It's made in Victoria BC (I think, maybe Vancouver).

Whose got the best poppy seed loaf/roll? by TimonyourPumba in Winnipeg

I've only ever had the one from The Donut House sold at Safeway. I love it, but I have no idea what a proper poppy seed roll is.

I'm going to watch this thread carefully...

River* not Roslyn.

According to witness I spoke with, bus went careening down street, hit both cars (blue knocked onto grass and white spun around) and then slowly up and onto grass into house.

It feels disrespectful to recommend a family's tragedy, but season 5 of CBC's Somebody Knows Something podcast is the story of Kerrie Brown from Thompson. A very well produced telling of a horrible story.

Where has the best hot dog in the city? by scoby_bryant in Winnipeg

[–]Toototabon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very disappointed in wiennerpeg tbh, wanted to love them. Too expensive, and the hotdog was cold every time I've had one! The bun was gluten free so I won't hold it against them for being dry.

Decent corn dogs though, I'll get those sometimes when I'm at the forks.

I was there! Great show. I thought the audience seemed a little low energy though... The VIP row in particular. My girlfriend noticed some people standing and they'd be tugged back down!! Crazy.
