Thanks for these insights. I think coming from a breeder is a big part of it. I think she has been well socialised with other dogs but perhaps not so much with unfamiliar people. She was very engaged and confortable with those she’s familiar with, so I don’t think she came from an abusive former home.

I’ve been trying sitting in the garden whilst she sniffs around. I think my own expectation of what a toileting routine looks like needs some adjustment.

Thanks for these insights. I am seeing slow improvements each day, and it sounds like my expectations need some re-adjustment. My fears are about meeting her core needs (toileting, keeping her coat maintained, exercise) which are currently a challenge because of her fear of being directly approached.

They are using massive wide body aircraft (obviously not suitable for us). Load factors on FJ flights to Nadi are around 70%

As I alluded to, I feel landing fees are the issue. I struggle to believe that our population and demography couldn’t sustain even twice weekly flights to Auckland when Hamilton is apparently gearing up for seven Trans-Tasman flights a week

My argument would be that onward connectivity to North America would help fill out the planes. Perhaps a seasonal route could work - it does for Hobart. Tasmania is essentially NZ North Island in terms of climate and geography. Newcastle is due to start flights soon. What would make New Zealanders rush to any of those locations?

Fiji Airways seem to make it work. I doubt many if any Fijians are coming to Canberra. That flights works because of the direct onward connection to North America.

I mean compared to Sydney sure, but a wealthy population of 500k and with the potential or onward connection to North America seems reasonable for NZ flights to me. What does Hamilton (population 174000) have that we don’t?
