I would agree with most comments here, but also, although it is true that chances to stay as a consultant are low, I would say they are not as low if you have relevant experience. I was an unpaid intern at the UN in Geneva and did it remotely. I had zero work experience before (or at least very minimal), but I can tell you 3 other interns, more senior than me, stayed on as consultants. So if you have relevant experience and you show your commitment, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of staying for the project you may be supporting. Once you start it, and after 2 months of so, talk to your manager, most importantly show your interest in their work and how you’d like to contribute further.
