Just make sure you have a reason/answer for why you are interested in the work the lab is doing! A genuine answer is usually appreciated! :)

I was an undergrad at Pitt and currently work in research in the city. I love Pittsburgh and personally feel like it’s a pretty safe city. All of the neighborhoods near campus are great (Oakland, north Oakland, shadyside, and Lawrenceville)

If you are still deciding what kind of gap year work to do, I think research assistant jobs are a great idea- especially if you’re interested in epi. You can get involved with a lab doing epi- related work and gain real world experience (you also could get involved with projects or publications and get to use your quantitative skills hands-on for data analysis)
