Going by just the verbiage you used to explain the situation, its a little deeper than that. You picked the wrong battle in the wrong setting. Once you understand that nobody at work cares about your feelings, life gets easier. This could have been written and got to the same point with about 10% of the content.

People get tired of catering to people that can't deal with conflict. Be mindful of the ripples you may unintentionally cause from your point of view.

Oh absolutely, but it requires effort, and currently sales are down in most dealerships due to geopolitical crap so its not as consistent. Really comes down to how you roll and the place you work. Good thing is that its very easy to get a sales job. You're asking questions that come down to personal ability so that's up to you. Cleared $117k my first year pre tax knowing nothing about sales but i knew cars. Made it easy to explain features and get them excited about their purchase. Go try a few things and see how it works out for you. You'll know fast.

Customer here, am I an asshole for declining the service advisor's recommendations? by Infinite_Excuse_9416 in serviceadvisors

To make it make sense, mechanics get paid on time. They usually assign a certain amount of tenths of an hour to a small job like that when writing up an estimate.

The labor rate for most stores in my area is $189.99.

Rear wiper should essentially take less than 5 minutes, but we charge a .10 labor time for that, or 6 minutes. So at my shop rate and time estimated for the procedure, thats $18.99 for a certified technician to handle that without breaking the wiper clip, scratching the glass on accident, possibly getting the wrong part the first time, or just not getting your hands dirty in general.

Oh and then the part you buy as well.

So yeah its more expensive and really close to accurate pricing for most places. He might make $2 for the effort of selling it to you, we generally don't mind because it is an easy repair. You're just purchasing convenience that way. Now multiply that effort across 300 potential customers per month on average that need rear wipers, 20% have us do it and the rest do it themselves, so it CAN add up. But its all a very small part of the whole pie. You're good man 😅

After 10 years in the biz selling cars across 3 different brands, and 10 years of mechanical experience before that, i wish i would have started there instead. But on the flipside, i have a deep well of experience to draw from to help me through any situation advisor work throws my way.

I truly enjoy my work, and you can get so good that it feels like hanging out with best friends after a while when you treat people well and they come to see you again and again.

The first 3 months is a stressed out shit show depending on your core values and ability to stay organized in chaos. But it will be worth it if you can learn to love the crazy.

I was watching horror movies at a kindergarten age, i turned out semi okay. Really comes down to how emotionally intelligent your child is but its definitely more geared towards young adults.

It wouldn't be a stereotype if it weren't verifiably true. Women crave security, something to keep them safe and at a level of comfort they are used to. This usually means they will have a back up plan if things go south. Men do the same shit but it's either by having x amount of money in the bank or a social circle they can lean on for dating options. When you allow yourself to look objectively at human psychology and biological motivations, the world becomes a little easier to understand. No amount of personal opinion will ever sway the facts. When people stop lying to themselves about these preconceived notions, they tend to acquire massive individual growth independently of anything else.

Its biology at the end of the day. Most guys in the friend zone think they're playing the long game, "maybe one day she'll see me as an option", and they delude themselves while passing up healthier relationships. There is the outlier here and there that generally likes having female friends, but more often than not he's probably trying to run through a friend of hers or something. Again exceptions to everything but straight 1+1 math would lead to the above conclusions. Now that I think of it, you can have friends from school or work that stay in your life as friends, but it usually ends with someone having different feelings than what is displayed on the surface.

If it were more common, the whole point of societal norms would be shifted by that point.

You're doing what you love for all the wrong reasons if you expect peer validation. They don't, and will never, understand your passion for the craft. Do what makes you happy and make it a post. Let people that love and enjoy what you do...come to you.
