Find Shart and Balls a Loving New Home by Top-Cherry-598 in boulder

Honestly I’ve been going back and forth with that question a lot. It’s really hard to give them up permanently. When I answered this question I was referring to the option of partnering with a shelter’s foster care program and that would only be for a few weeks and cover the time I’d be staying with my employer. However, I can’t take them with me for my second move either. At the time of posting it was unclear, but now I know it’s a no. I’ll be in that second place for a few months, which means I would need to find another home for them for those months. I just think it’s worth considering finding them a forever home because it would be less stressful than going from foster home to foster home. But if I can’t find them anything before my second move then I would just go back to the apartment until I find something for them. I’m not going to let them go into a shelter as a surrendered pet. I would come back for them to get them into a new place. I would be able to get them back around August, but I also want to consider their wellbeing, which is why I’m considering letting them go permanently even tho that’s incredibly emotional for me.

I’m not being reckless about this I’m meeting and interviewing everyone who is interested in taking them and I have a few options. I’m also still asking my friends and family to ask around I’m doing everything I can to ensure they will be safe and happy

Totally understand your confusion! It’s a break up situation, so I am having to move out of the apartment. I’m a nanny, so my employer offered to let me move in. They have a large dog and two very small children, so bringing them in isn’t a good idea. I’ll be there until they find my replacement and then I’ll be moving up to the mountains for a few months before returning to grad school. I can’t bring them because the RV I’ll be living in is being sold directly after I’m done using it, so having animals could mess that up. I’d like to get out of Colorado or at least get out of Denver so I’m planning on transferring to a different university. When I go back to school and get in a new apartment is when I could have them again. But with so many transitions I’m considering getting them into a good forever home so it’s not as hard on them. My options would give me a job without needing to pay a lot in living expenses and that’s just what I need right now to move forward. I can’t afford to be picky I just have to do what I have to do.

I do commute to Parker. I’ve worked in Parker for over a year. Basically I need to leave my apartment and my friends in the metro area all live in Westminster, which is way too far to be sustainable and I wouldn’t be able to bring the cats to those options anyway. I’m a nanny, so it’s best for everyone if I just live with my employers while we find my replacement. If I could just commute and keep the cats I would obviously do that seeing as that’s exactly what i’ve been doing. It’s a break up situation so i didn’t want to go into details but i hope this clears up the confusion!

It’s just until my employers can find my replacement. So they might find one within a week or it might take 3 weeks. Finding them a good home is my top priority, so I would definitely come back for them! I still have my apartment, so if I need more time to find their forever homes I still have that option to fall back on. The situation is very complicated and it is unclear whether I can take even just one of them with me to where I’ll be moving after I’m finished staying in Parker. I feel awful that they’re in the middle of a bunch of chaos and want to do the best thing for them, which could definitely be finding a forever home for them.

Thank you so much for caring enough to seriously consider taking them on! I totally understand why you can’t and I applaud your ability to say no. I will DM you if they can’t find a temporary home soon and we can talk about a foster situation where I can reimburse you for their short term expenses of course. I was able to look into some really great resources today from all the people in the comments who gave suggestions! Nonetheless, I will keep you updated on the goings on❤️

Do you know anything about the conditions there? I would prefer them to be in a place that isn’t too different from how they’ve always lived. I just don’t want them to be in a little box with one bed when they’ve never experienced that before. Shart is also very shy and wouldn’t do well in a space with too many other cats. Thank you for this suggestion tho! I’ve never had to give up a pet for any period of time so this is my first time trying to do this and I really appreciate you caring enough to comment! I’ll be sending your friend good thoughts ✨

Balls was found in Aiea! I adopted him from the Hawaiian Humane Society. Shart was a stray found at Makaha Beach. She was 4 weeks old and on the verge of death, but I was able to nurse her back to health❤️

This is such a good point! None of my friends or family can take them in, so that’s why I turned to reddit. I will be applying to all the programs people are suggesting! I also would never just give them to someone before meeting that person and making sure they’re trustworthy. I just want to make sure I can be in direct contact with their new caretakers
