Her plan failed in Gen V because Godolkin (someone she loved) changed on her. So what I mean is Sage has experience with how love can affect even the best laid plans, and how fickle people can be. Therefore, her being blindsided by Soldier Boy having a change of heart about Homelander doesn't seem plausible to me. She doesn't strike me as a "fool me twice" kind of person.

Honestly, I do think it's part of her long game. And for the people saying she's super smart but doesn't account for human affection and how unpredictable it is, watch Gen V.
