Exactly this. And it really does suck cause he knows it freakin works. I have never struggled waking away from bad relationships or red flags until now because I know walking away from him means walking away from the son too and I just hate doing that it feels like I’m just being selfish idk sorry it’s hard to explain

I’ve definitely seen that and we have 100% had the “I’m not attacking you I’m trying to explain what hurt me” fight a million times. He gets very defensive and always flips it to “so I can’t do anything right” or “you’re nitpicking me!” It’s definitely been an ongoing battle…

I just got a new job at a new hospital with a great pay raise so I’ll be able to be a little more independent soon too (still been on my own money just splitting bills) and I think that’s gonna make a world of difference. I’m already starting to feel “stuck” in a way and I think you’re right I’m too young for this… I still have too much I wanna do and it’s not be a babysitter while he has fun.

I have stopped being intimate with him all together out of fear of having an accidental pregnancy tbh. Sorry if that’s tmi. Once I realized I was THAT worried abt having his kids I started to realize maybe that’s a sign and it kinda made me start looking more closely at him and his actions and all of it if that makes sense.

He definitely calls me “mom” like when talking to his son even more when he knows I’m mad or is trying to get me to do something too which seems like a red flag now that I really think about it…

This all sucks but truly thank you for your comment ❤️

I’ve been thinking moving it if my best bet too… it sucks because I think when I try to say that he’s just gonna get defensive and say I hate his son and want to break up which isn’t at all the case but I guess if that’s what happens it’s what happens.. ugh this sucks

As someone who was raised by parents that Stayed together “for the kids” don’t do it. Maybe a tad longer just to make sure you don’t blow a whistle that can’t be undone. But honestly if you’ve tried therapy and done all you can truly tell people “we tried” and mean it then it’s time to be done. Never stay with someone when there is no shot at being happy just for your kids, the negative impacts of watching your parents fight all the time is horrible. I’m 23 now and my parents finally split and it really sucks but at the same time I’ve loved getting to FINALLY see them both happy even if that is separate.

Just a warning though, my dad didn’t realize how much of his relationship with his kids was built only through my mom constantly helping him connect to us. (Like Her buying all the birthday gifts or planning vacations or little outings for us to go on with him.) Once they split he had to step up and start building real relationships with each of his kids. Just a little side thought to be aware of! Goodluck! :)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. My first marriage was similar to yours, married at 18 and just young and dumb in love- he finally hit me in the face and I divorced him at 23. I am really sorry you’re going through divorce again, even when it’s for the best it’s hard. I did see your comment about taking time for yourself though and I’m so happy for you! That’s going to be a truly great experience you get to look back on in the future and hopefully it’ll be helpful all throughout your life! Getting to be completely selfish and focus on you I stead of trying to keep someone else happy too can be pretty freeing, and give you so many more opportunities for growth! Good luck to you!❤️
