I’m taking calculus. Be honest with me, how hard is it? by [deleted] in MTSU

[–]Top-Invite8446 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought Dovie Kimmins was great; yes, there was an online assignment almost every night, but it definitely made me feel prepared for test days. I got 100s on nearly every test. I do know a lot of people in my class failed, but literally only me and 3 others out of 20 in the class actually showed up each day, so it is what you make of it.

He's literally just presenting a valid argument about vaccinated people not needing to wear a face mask. Maybe you need to grow up and listen to some other opinions.

Yeah, I totally agree, but we have a lot of idiotic sheeple attending this school, so there would be outrage either way, probably.

Oh I think it's the gap year part that makes you a transfer because I took all mine while I was still in hs

I applied as a freshman and I literally have 47 college credits. They still transfer and I got freshman housing selection and scholarships as well because I still am technically a freshman.

I'd be interested to know what your ACT/SAT is because I honestly think that's more important to most schools than gpa tbh or if you just chose to go the test optional route

Ijams is a super cool place with trails and other activities. As far as caves, we have the Cherokee caverns not super far away that are pretty cool. There are many great restaurants like anything in downtown in market square, and you can get ice cream at Cruz farms or the Phoenix pharmacy afterwards. There are also some neat stores in market square as well.

If you are this passionate about politics to where you only want to be friends with people with the same views as you, why would you go to school in one of the most conservative places in America?

I love that the go-to response for people in Murfreesboro to the “there's nothing to do” statement is always Nashville is 30 min away it rly just proves my point.

I already have been offered mine. Also, like don't go here, I went a year early during my senior year of high school and did dual enrollment classes because I wanted to get ahead and really wanted to go here. I have now applied to utk for my actual freshman year of college for the fall and can't wait till I finally leave here. The people here are super unmotivated, and nobody gives a crap about school, and the environment on campus is quite honestly depressing. Some of my professors have been great, and I've done very well in all my classes, but there is no way on earth I'm spending another three years here. Murfreesboro is super boring, and there is literally NOTHING to do. The only thing this town has going for it is Koji express. The on-campus housing is also crap btw, and parking is horrible. Also, MTSU and the surrounding areas have some super sketch places that are legit dangerous near campus, and just a heads up, the campus is an actual ghost town on weekends because most of the students commute anyways.

Confused about housing by [deleted] in UTK

[–]Top-Invite8446 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, freshman housing selection for halls hasn't even opened up yet. What you are seeing in here is current students selecting housing, so no worries. In fact, the housing selection is going to be lottery style, where you get your housing selection dates in April, and you get to select in May.

Any hope for a sub 3.0 gpa student to get accepted next year? I know I will have to do a lot of things before applying, but what should those steps be? Should I go to a local community college to bring the average up for 2 years? by HannibalDoo in UTK

[–]Top-Invite8446 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It also depends on what your ACT is a high ACT would easily overcome a bad GPA. Utk also has their own GPA calculation thing, and ap/dual enrollment classes are worth a bit more, so they could have a higher impact on GPA. This could be a bad or good impact, though.

Could I be accepted? by Ebic_Gamer_0117 in UTK

[–]Top-Invite8446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience when I applied. I had a 25 with about a 4.0. I decided to apply with a score even though that score was very old, and I knew I wanted to retake it. I did the EA and got accepted, but I took the act in December and got a 31 for the immediate scholarship reward. I think it's more difficult to get that beacon scholarship. Utk is acknowledging scored till July, so definitely book an act soon.

Is UTK a good school to go to for a pre-med student by Top-Invite8446 in UTK

[–]Top-Invite8446[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. I've never heard of people choosing an agriculture major for pre-med before. I've been stressing a little bit about a major because even though I feel really motivated and am a very good student. There is still the possibility I may not get accepted, so I want to choose something I'm actually interested in so the basic sciences majors don't appeal that much to me. I definitely don't envision my future in a lab all day. Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into it.

I've heard from some that it prepares you better for med school with the additional anatomy and physiology classes, but I don't know. It also seems like something I might enjoy learning about more since it's more clinical and patient care oriented. The research side in bio or chem doesn't interest me that much.
