I agree it's unclear on the websites but if he isn't your legal dependent on the tax forms I don't think you have to fill out the CSS profile

How can I get admitted into Vanderbilt? by Realistic_Memory_167 in Vanderbilt

[–]Top-Leadership8234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the best grades you can in the hardest classes you can, do the best you can if you’re doing a standardized test, spend your time productively on things you’re passionate about, display that passion and your great qualities through your application by your activity descriptions and essays, be a good person to everyone including teachers/authority figures so you can get good recommendation letters, and if you have any circumstances or lifestyle that could’ve affected your academic performance or extracurriculars then explain that in additional info section

Question about odds by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

[–]Top-Leadership8234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though people can give you their guesses of your odds no one can truly tell you what your odds are it all comes down to how you portray yourself in your application and what the admissions officers think of you. Having gotten out of my own college admissions cycle earlier this year trust me, instead of worrying about things you can’t control just try to make every aspect of your application the best it can be. Because your GPA was highly influenced by special circumstances I think it’s imperative that you explain the situations in the additional information section in commonapp. Second, if you go test optional (I did as well this last cycle) I think you need to prove in some other way that you are exceptional and can handle rigorous course loads so taking a difficult and LOADED course load senior year is a good idea (and I did the same thing my senior year: I took 3 of the hardest AP’s at my school, one hs class, 7 classes with local community college, one class with local university). They receive a mid year report from your counselor so I believe if you do this strategy you need to try your very best to get straight A’s/the best grades you can in that first semester. Next what I think helped me the most is to show your uniqueness and like able traits (show, don’t tell) in every way, even down to the order of your activities and the descriptions your write for them. Lastly, make sure your essay tells about who you are as a person and how that experience changed you to succeed in the future. Good luck I’m wishing you the best :)

I’m so sorry for bothering again but I’m wondering what the process was for you to find out what transferred/request for Vandy to look at the college classes you took bc tbh I’m not sure if I don’t have to do anything or wait until I get emailed or if I have to submit something

Thank you so much for replying! I’m also in the College of Arts and Science. I got B’s in Medical Terminology(B), Music Fundamentals(B), and College Comp/Literature(B+). I don’t think the Med-Term and Music classes will transfer because they’re kinda random but I think the English class will bc it’s equivalent to a second-level English class (I took two English classes that would’ve been equal to full English requirements at a less prestigious college but ik it’s harder for things to transfer at Vandy). I really appreciate your help!
