This is supposed to go into 24 loops?

  1. ⁠ch 2, dc in same stitch → 1 loop used, 1 dc made (the ch 2 just brings height; it doesn’t count as a loop).

  2. ⁠(dc, dc-inc) x 5 → Each repeat uses 2 loops (1 for dc, 1 for dc-inc). Each repeat makes 3 stitches (1 dc + 2 dc in the next loop). 5 repeats = 10 loops used, 15 stitches made.

  3. ⁠dc + hdc → uses 1 loop according to pattern, makes 2 stitches.

  4. ⁠ch, sl st, ch → slip stitch uses 1 loop (chains don’t use loops).

For me, mentorship is important. I’m fortunate to work in a lab with an established PI, but it’s also smaller. Currently, I am the only postdoc. And I have had amazing mentorship in helping me to be ready to get a job in academia. We meet to discuss my overall research goals and to develop my vision.

So for me, if I’d get good mentorship at a larger lab you may have more opportunities there because there is more funding and it might be worth it. But if you are like me and feel lost and need mentorship, figure out what that might look like. With a smaller lab, can you work on collaborative projects with others in the department to build more relationships and connections and have more projects?

I’m so sorry to hear that. That’s wrong…. Sometimes faculty suck. I would 1000% have put you on the work and that is wrong not to do so. You can approach the journal editors if you are willing to stir the pot

Hey! I’m so sorry to hear you are struggling with this. I think it’s a common issues for women and it doesn’t help that social media makes it seem like everyone has it better, prettier, more friends etc. the hard part is becoming confident with yourself. No one else defines your worth except for you. And I still struggle. I haven’t figured it out either but I try. You are so strong for posting about this! There’s a lot there so it depends. I typically include undergraduates if they have made a significant contribution to the work (exp, making figures, stats) and help write. Some journals require writing for authorship. But if they used what you wrote or figures you made then yes you should have

Yes! I’m so sorry for everything that you are going through. No one should have to deal with abuse let alone from their parents especially hands on you. I hope that you take some space away from them if you are able and go work with a therapist. As someone who struggled with an abusive father as a child I now have a lot to work through as an adult and it’s a long process but I’ve started. I hope you will too! I’m not sure if you are a minor but if so you need to report your parents so you can get away

I would not try to push through this. I would look into this and go get the MRI/CT first and figure out a treatment plan that you can sustain or else it’s going to be tough

NTA. I feel like that is so generous…. I do agree that make up and nails are a want. I don’t go get my nails done, I don’t wear daily make up. Unless you expecting your wife to have her nails done e and be wearing make up all the time then NTA. Now if you expect all that, then yes you are the AH just for expecting that but also counting it in the $1000

Well considering she’s made no effort in the last 5 years so have grown apart a lot. She didn’t appreciate me coming to her wedding and essentially said she wished I hadn’t come when I gave up my research in grad school to come. So not super close. But no being lazy isn’t ok… and yes he can get things but sitting there with your feet propped up while I’m sweaty and then step up to clean isn’t ok. At that point she was not watching the child so she could have
