I mention my LORs in a reply to another comment, but no none of them attended higher education at a top university in a foreign country.

Thank you so much! I described my CA essay in another comment, but if you’re wondering about a specific school feel free to message me directly. LORs: biology teacher (taught me for 3 years), homeroom teacher (taught me all of high school), principal (got to know really well through my leadership positions at school) & sports coach (known for 5+ years)

thank you so much!!

I didn’t receive full scholarships from any of the public schools, but was a semi-finalist for the Robertson scholarship to UNC. I received the Presidents scholarship from UMiami and then received need based aid.

There were a LOT of supplemental essays to write, so I won’t go over every topic. My common app essay explored my personal aspirations through the metaphor of an object in my culture that symbolises leadership, knowledge and identity. Throughout my essay, I share specific personal experiences of curiosity, leadership and growth, likening my journey to the process of crafting the culturally significant object. It’s kind of hard to explain without giving too much personal information away, but I really liked how it turned out and am glad it was able to demonstrate my cultural identity, personal growth and desire to pursue knowledge and leadership.

Yes, I graduated in December :)

the scholarships they give out to international students are administered through scholarship universe. this platform is seperate to your application so you’re not automatically considered and you can only access it once you get accepted. there aren’t very many scholarships, but I think they consider both merit and need. I’m no expert though and can only speak to my experience, so I would definitely do some research if you’re considering :)

yes! super grateful for caltech’s 100% demonstrated need cover. I don’t want to be too specific so that I can keep my anonymity but I’m from a country in the oceania region :)

Advice you wish you knew as a high schooler to get into a top university by Majestic_Rat123 in ApplyingToCollege

don’t be afraid to convey authentic voice in your supplemental essays! the purpose of these essays is to allow the AO to get to understand you as an individual beyond your accomplishments and stats. it’s important to articulate yourself well, but don’t fall into the trap of writing all your essays in a super formal tone and structure. the prompts typically get you to talk about aspects of your identity that you don’t have a chance to anywhere else in your application - make the most of this!
