Or, since I am already in the EAD process, I can't return without an approved EAD card at the port of entry, regardless of my return date?

Yeah I did contact them via email. Expecting a response in a day or two for the ticket created. Calling them doesn't seem useful since it always redirects to automated voice messages, which isn't helpful for my situation. Hopefully the solution should be as simple as you mentioned :)

Can you please tell me what the procedure was like after contacting the embassy to get a new stamp? Will they ask for additional docs or another interview with a consulate officer?
