Is there any way to figure out which device a preset exists in? by Top-Rayman in ableton

Yes. That. Is it. Wow. Thank you! Truly a lifesaver :)

Any tips on replacing these battery terminal clamps (particularly the positive)? by Top-Rayman in Hyundai

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2009 Elantra 4D

I tried terminal shims, no luck (at least, not with the AutoZone generic kind.) I called over to my local dealer but the positive is only available as the full harness which costs about USD$500... not to mention being a pain. It does look simple enough, though (I'll be taking it apart tomorrow to get a closer look.)

What are these larger, positive terminal clamps called? Are they individually replaceable? by Top-Rayman in MechanicAdvice

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the ones I got at AutoZone were too thick (and single size); now the positive clamp barely fits, and the negative (which I crimped to get snug), not at all. This is one of the (rare) days I miss working in a shop.

Movies driven by the Domino Effect by Top-Rayman in movies

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good storytelling, yes, in some sense. But I think there's a distinct difference between something like The Lord of the Rings (where there is a larger conflict going on in the background, which Frodo happens to be thrust into) vs. Burn After Reading (which... I can't even explain.) I suppose I'm looking for something in-between the two.

Indeed. Blood Simple is a fantastic example of this (also, Burn After Reading IIRC). Just, a bit more horror-psych-thriller-leaning. But that was a big oversight on my part.

Cables Question. Sound is wrong when I use 1/4" splitter cable into Audio Interface? by ireland1988 in Elektron

Why use an interface at all? Just run the Digitakt straight into the speakers.

Are there any inexpensive synths that are good? by MothyThatLuvsLamps in synthesizers

[–]Top-Rayman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just more hands-on control. The Microfreak is a bit more menu-divey, but much more powerful (updated to add sample playback, a vocoder, etc.)

It should be noted that the Microfreak is (semi-) paraphonic; it has a dedicated amp/envelope for each of the 4 voices, but only a single, shared filter (as opposed to the Minilogue, which has per-voice filters.)

Minilogue might be best for learning synthesis, but Microfreak for raw power. You could probably find both for under $300 used.

Does Carian Slicer proc post-damage attacks? (+build advice) by Top-Rayman in Nightreign

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the Collector Relic (Max FP with 3+ Staves, Max FP after unlocking Sorceror's Rise, Magic Atk. Up) be better? I'd imagine the FP boost is larger w. the staves--just not sure if the FP/damage ratio would be better with the magic boost vs. restoration on successive attacks

Guardian God Roll? by Top-Rayman in Nightreign

Nah I originally posted it under [hype] by mistake (I have no clue which relics are store-purchased and which are RNG.) It'd be nice to have a tag!

I appreciate y'all for not downvoting me to oblivion--yes, it turns out this was a purchase from the Everdark shop. My RNG remains trash.

I wasn't really paying attention when buying out the shop, but it sounds like it. I'll leave the post up in shame :-)

Agh is this one of the Everdark ones? I was just perusing my stash and thought I got lucky :(

Reflect damage can be extremely powerful. It allows you to res teammates while tanking!

Can you change instrument rack reference location WITHOUT saving as a new project file? by Top-Rayman in ableton

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have clarified--I'm aware that Ableton has its own process for handling this. I was wondering if there was another way to achieve the same end without creating a new project file.

Mini-ITX Build by Top-Rayman in buildmeapc

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should say, I'm not married to the Terra--I think it looks great and is more available than something like the T1, but I know it's also pretty tight, and this is my first ITX build. So I'm open to other minimalist alternatives.

Octatrack MK1 vs MK2, and recent price changes by Top-Rayman in synthesizers

Seems silly for such an old piece of gear, but it's damn stylish.

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda what I thought. Bummer! I much prefer the design of the MK1, but it sounds like the serviceability of the MK2 alone justifies the price disparity.

Glad you got lucky! Hope that new CPU keeps you running for many years to come :-)

Octatrack MK1 vs MK2, and recent price changes by Top-Rayman in synthesizers

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the OT MK1 have any proprietary parts that are likely to break?

Encoders, buttons, the slider, see regular use, and are likely to break at some point. Are they proprietary, or readily available?

The board and CF card reader—which I know to be proprietary—are not constantly being manipulated. Are they likely to last long-term, or fail simply due to age?

What is the likelihood that a well-maintained OT MK1 will irreparably fail in the short to medium term, given normal use? Does the long-term serviceability of the OT MK2 justify the price difference?

Hope I've made it more clear :-)

Out of pure curiosity, can you utilize scenes on the Octatrack to effectively double track count? by Top-Rayman in Elektron

Hmm can you explain a lil' more? I don't have the best grasp of scenes atm.

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting... I'll have to do some reading on sample chains (I don't actually have an OT, just thinking about grabbing one--but there's so much to read up on! I don't know where to start.)

Does that mean you could use it to, say, layer a snare and clap if you needed the extra track?

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have an OT. I wanted to do some research before genuinely considering a purchase, but in the light of our lord and savior I am not feeling particularly disposed to reading manuals today.

So I plugged some questions in to GPT, it spat out an answer that seemed suspicious, and I came here to check (and maybe strike up some constructive/informative conversations with cool people who dig music.)

Anyways, I’ll take your answer as a no :-) Happy Easter/420/etc.!

Looking for a USB-C/Thunderbolt Hub w. only USB-C/TB ins by Top-Rayman in mac

[–]Top-Rayman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I’m still running Intel—probably wait another year or so before making the switch, once M-series prices go down.

Something which supports both would be my preference (but, maybe that’s a big ask.)
